If your child is on an IEP stay far away from this school. They will make zero accommodations. They do not place children appropriately and the resource teacher is nothing more than a glorified babysitter. There is zero communication with anyone related to an IEP, they are not interested in helping these students and will only work to isolate them. These kids fall further behind but the school doesn't care because they are "out of sight, out of mind".

They have some excellent teachers. Unfortunately, they are hand cuffed by a leadership team that cares more about pleasing the majority of parents than doing what is right. The principal makes arbitrary decisions to combine classes as the cure to all problems. No substitute, combine classes. Problems with a teacher, combine classes. This year alone, I had one of my children in a class where they combined classes and there were over 60 students in the class (with one teacher) for the day. For half of the year, my other child had 19 students in her class. In an attempt to deal with some classroom behavior issues, the principal decided the best solution was to combine 2 classes, so now my child has 40 kids in her class. Attempts to deal with the Jordan School District have proven pointless. The Principal and Vice Principal at Eastlake refuse to pursue other options and lack leadership and vision.

We moved here from a nearby city where we had a school with lots of parent involvement, and great communication from teachers, administrators, and PTA. We were terribly disappointed with our teachers here, one in particular, the other was ok. One teacher rarely sent work home, had poor classroom management, and we wondered if our child even learned anything. My husband ended up working with our child every night on math to make sure she understood it (not a bad thing to work with your child, though!). Because we rarely knew what was happening we felt like we were sending our child to a black hole each day. We tried working with the teacher, and he tried, but it just seemed too much for him; we talked to the principal; we even eventually sent word to the district. We never felt the situation was resolved. We never had the assurance that we could trust Eastlake to do a good job educating our kids.We ended up sending all our kids to a different school (and we're not the only ones who've taken measures like this). That all said, we will probably try Eastlake for kindergarten again and see if things are better. I sense the biggest problems are in 3rd and 4th grade (however, I've also heard of some mean/inappropriate things said by teachers which makes me nervous). We'd love to come back to our local school, and hope they can get things more organized and professional. I think some of the problems at the school are due to just so many kids. Class sizes weren't bad compared to where we came from, but overall there are just so many kids. I can't imagine trying to manage that, and the parents! Hopefully a new school nearby and moving to traditional schedule is a good indicator.I think if you don't know any different, Eastlake may be fine, but if you've been at better schools, Eastlake is a let down. Maybe it was just the teachers we had; maybe we would have had a better experience had we had different teachers.
