Wakefield Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

We just withdrew our daughter from Wakefield Elementary because we're moving overseas. We've truly loved every year she's been there (3 years). She's had fantastic teachers who go above and beyond helping their students! We're really going to miss everyone! Mrs Linson is a wonderful Principal! You can really tell she truly cares about each and every one of her students! Every member of the staff I have encountered have always been so kind and go out of their way to help with what you need! I hate that they're rated low on here because they really do deserve a much better rating!

The current principal is lacking in leadership skills. Unfortunately, redistricting brought about many changes to Wakefield. The previous principal brought all of the great teachers with him to the new school- who could blame him? The new Wakefield is a disappointment. Principals in this district tend to move around quite a bit and so maybe this one will get reassigned somewhere else. I sense that teacher morale is low which is a shame for the students. The school has an "exemplary" rating which is based on future achievement, not actual achievement.

Our children have had an excellent year here at Wakefield. The teachers are caring and experienced and the leadership of the principal is amazing. He knows almost every one of the students' and families' names and makes personal contacts with each one. I couldn't ask for a better place to send my children to on a daily basis. I know they are in good hands and that they are prepared educationally. We are sad to see the changes for next year that has been brought about by the bond election, but we are excited about having a smaller 'community' school. We wish the administration and teachers leaving to go to Henry Sory the best of luck!

My son has attended Wakefield since he was in grade K. He will be moving to Sory next year due to where we live. His experiences at Wakefield have been nothing but positive. I have felt more than welcome to play an active role in his learning environment. The principal is amazing, as well as his office staff. (He will be moving to Sory next year, and we are thrilled). What I love most about Wakefield is the amazing effort that is made there to help every child feel important and a part of things. From the special needs children to the most advanced students, everyone has a place.

We have had 4 children attend Wakefield Elementary in Sherman over a span of 10 years. While it has historically been a good school, the current administration and faculty has excelled it to an outstanding school. It has a very warm, welcoming environment. There is strong community and parent support and you can't beat the quality of instruction at any level. The extracurricular activities offered at Wakefield far exceeds those of any other elementary school. The school motto last year was Wakefield Elementary School: Where everyone fits in! I couldn't put it in words any better myself. Way to go Wakefield!
