Tompkins High School offers a great teaching staff who really want to be a part of each students learning career and care about the individual at a deeper level. The environment is very comfortable and lively and Tompkins has an abundance of apportunities for students to be involved. Best school in Katy.

A lot of the teaching staff is very inexperienced. Important subjects like Algebra have recently graduated teachers. Just inadequate in my opinion. They could do a lot better, but the school thrives on the district reputation and eager students who get an average of 6 hours sleep each night. The more experienced teachers actually teach, while the others just send the kids home with piles of homework. I hope my son's interest is sustained and he does not lose interest in school work. The school could do a lot better in terms of teaching quality, falls short in this important area.If you rate this school on the facilities, it would grade at 10/10.

I'm a student at Tompkins and this is certainly an excellent school. The AP teachers are very well qualified and motivated, and the facilities are fantastic as the school is pretty new. Technology is used heavily in the classroom. From an academic standpoint, I think it's the best school in Katy ISD as the teachers have just recently started working there and are excited about their jobs; most go out of their ways to help students succeed. Those who apply themselves will certainly excel on their AP tests and earn vast amounts of college credit easily. The coaches are great, and the teams are already performing will and will continue to get better as the school grows. In the past, people have complained about the lack of school spirit, but Tompkins is already creating many new traditions such as a senior men's pageant and food truck parties. The culture here is great and most of the students are very down to earth. Some people dress up but many people wear comfortable clothes like jeans/hoodies/sweats. I think it's the best school in Katy ISD and am very glad I went here instead of Seven Lakes because you get more individual attention here. However, here are a few problems I have encountered during my time here and some advice for transfer/incoming students.-The counselors seem very overworked and it's hard to get help from them; there are only five counselors for the several thousand students. They aren't helpful when it comes to changing schedules - make sure that you are 100% certain about your course selections before you submit them. And if you want to change them after submitting the form, talk to them ASAP. After the deadline and especially after the school year starts, classes most likely won't be changed unless you're dropping from AP to academic. People often get stuck in courses they hate and cannot be switched out. - The dress code is stricter than at the neighboring schools and the policies are unclear. Example: They say you can wear mid-thigh dresses but people are often dress coded for much longer.-AP teachers are excellent, but the academic classes/electives are often taught by coaches. Some are great, but many are more focused on their sport and not actually teaching.
