Sterling High School is one the worse schools in HISD.The district thinks by adding new people to the staff this will make a change. This is like putting a bandage on a bullet wound. The staff lacks professoinalism, not all but most. There are a hand full of caring staff members and teachers. They never know whats going on and are not very inviting to the parents,as they claim.I think some of these big people in the district should come down and teacher for awhile and see if they can make a change or create a staff that can and are willing to give great education to our children. This is what the property tax payers expect.Maybe I want feel like my vote for the school bond was all a host.

This school is a gem and the larger community is not aware of it yet. I am a tutor with the HiLZ students (now Futures Academy) at Sterling. My students work with HCC to get an Associate Degree by the time they graduate from high school. My students have set a high standard for themselves and plan on going to a 4-year university after graduation. They are dedicated and diligent to their studies and future. They are all attending summer school at HCC to further their studies and complete the degree program. Sterling also has the HISD magnet program for Aviation Sciences. These kids get to fly planes. This is a neighborhood public high school! I enjoy the students, staff and administration very much. I would recommend this school highly to anyone. I think they have changed significantly in the past 5 or so years but the improvements have not completely made their way out into the larger community yet. But it will!

They had a great guidance couselor when my child was there in 2008 . She worked are hard to help students achieve their college dreams. There were some teachers that really cared but there were some that did not care.

This school needs a whole new staff if it wants to keep a good system running. Its not organized and its smells like an abandoned place in all buildings.

I graduated from RSS and I must say I had the best years of my life at that school. I bled columbia blue and navy. ;-) Not only did I get a scholarship to the University of Texas but I also received other scholarship offers thanks to my guidance counselor. School is what your child makes it. Yeah, Sterling may not look like a brand new school but I had more memorable moments and life changing teachers there that definitely overshadowed what the school look like. I highly suggest getting your child involved in programs at Sterling. The Sterling Players (theatre) who have made several State UIL appearances, and the Aviation magnet program which help students obtain a Pilot License are one of the best in Texas. Sterling's Wall of Sound Marching Band also has a stellar reputation throughout Texas that has been known to provide scholarships to college hopefulls.
