St. Francis Episcopal Day Ratings & Reviews

My daughter has been at this school for 8 years and my husband went there as well from 4 years old through 8th grade....we absolutely LOVE the school and feel that it is an amazing place to grow up! The staff is very good and the focus on "being people for others" is reiterated every day. Chapel is a wonderful experience that they attend twice per week and the kids really benefit from the teachings. I read some of the negative reviews on here and can honestly say that we have not experienced any of those situations in the 8 years that we have been here and neither did my husband during his 11 years at the school. We love St. Francis!!!

My son has been at this school for his middle school years and he absolutely loved his time here. We love the small community atmosphere, the broader choice of electives and the no-cut sports. Of course at any school there are the sports jocks but we haven't had any issues with bullying or exclusion - a lot can depend on the individual kid. The school has ramped up its misbehavior rules and consequences which is good as a few kids shouldn't spoil a grade. This can be seen at any school - my younger is at public. I believe here at st Francis the smaller size grade means more attention and care for the student and they won't be just a number who may slip under the radar. My older got into a fantastic high school and we can probably thank st Francis for guiding him there.

This review only concerns middle school. Both my children have spent 5-6 years at this school with my older child finishing the program in 8th grade. For the most part we were happy. Strong academics, nice community and solid teachers. Something has changed since 2015. The school is very focused on building their high school and fund raising for it. The middle school classes not transitioning to the high school became the Guinea pig classes to test out experimental curriculum, brand new teachers and new ways of teaching. None of this had to be bad but the reality is that it has created severe disruption, shoddy and disjointed teaching and children who are extremely stressed and miserable about learning. What you will get should your child attend the middle school is crazy amounts of homework (2-3 hours in 7/8th grade), poor teacher responsiveness and a parent community that would rather pay big bucks for tutors to do the work (teachers look the other way) or parents who do the work with or for their child of 13/14. Yup. the administration is in a state of flux and teachers are overwhelmed by the changes and most of the old teachers have retired. The new ones are almost all completely unimpressive. And the school chooses to be in denial despite tons of families Leaving middle school at the end of last year. we left and could not be happier. Cannot recommend this school any longer to friends until they achieve some stability in leadership and teaching. Sad bc this used to be a really quality school.

I have a child who just finished Primary school at St. Francis. We have found it to be an amazing school for our daughter - extremely nurturing and Christian based. The teachers are fantastic and the administration - including everyone up to Dr. Lair - have all been wonderful. My daughter's class is very diverse - both race and religion. I have heard from friends whose kids went all the way through St. Francis and who are now in various high schools - both public and private - that they are doing extremely well. All in all, we are extremely pleased with the school and plan to be here through 8th grade.

As a student who went hear for a majority of my life and is now in university, i can reflect on my experience at St. Francis. I attended this school from 1st to 8th grade and, to be honest, it was one of the worst times of my life. St. Francis is a very affluent, white school where the students are very homogenous. There is no diversity, in my class is distantly remember 2 non-white students. There is a very exclusive environment. If someone is not a football player or a cheerleader, they are excluded and tormented. I witnessed some of the worst bulling i have ever seen at the school. When it was brought to the attention of the administration, they did not handle it appropriately at all. If you would like for your child to go to an exclusive, snobby school where they will be scarred to be the same as everyone else for the rest of their life, send them to St. Francis.
