As a parent, I love the family environment and feel the teachers genuinely care.

Mt. Carmel had some good teachers but for the most part I recall many teachers being good people. Just that their classes were too easy most of what I learned in high school I already learned from middle school. Most of my learning took place outside the classroom or from talking to teachers who were willing to give me extra reading material. All in all though the other students tended to be pretty cool it was swing or miss pending on who you hung out with. MCA did bring me out of my shell and helped me build some good friendships. One thing I don't care for is how some people (alums, faculty, parents) carry the notion that this a Catholic school and while it is small and there is religious club. Those things do not make it a Catholic school, if you are looking for a true Catholic school there are schools out there for that focus. In the way of improvement I think MCA needs to re-asses their academics in every field. Also they need to re-work their service hour requirement because that is a joke. I knew so many students who lied on their papers and made up hours.

Mt. Carmel does try to help the students prepare for college. But, it is up to the student to prepare themselves and buy in. Our son didn't qualify for much financial aide if any for college. But that didn't deter us from perusing the dream and we don't blaming others such as the school if we didn't get what we wanted. Mt. Carmel taught us what we needed to know, the rest was up to us as it should be. Mt. Carmel is a good school with good people that rose through the ashes... it's what you make of it that determines where and how far you go. We may not agree and see things differently but, our family is grateful for the opportunity to attend Mt. Carmel, it help us prepare for college and the real world. Thank-You Mt. Carmel!

I was one of the first classes to graduate from the high school when it had opened a few years ago. I'll start by saying that I made many great friends and found some teachers that cared about my success. However I soon found that I was not by ANY MEANS prepared for college and when I reflect on it with fellow alums, we conclude that we really received a poor education. A lot of our classes were just TAKS preparations and classes like Physics and English were a joke. I'm sad to say that in recent returns to the school it only seems that quality of education is continuing to go downhill, and the student population continues to become more ghetto.

I used to be a proud graduate, but I went back for a visit and all of the teachers who actually prepared me for college are gone. Everyone who really cared ablout kids is gone, too. My friends who are still there said teachers start doing test review only in January and they even make the elective teachers do it, which is the only reason the school hasn't been closed. The school is barely financially stable and repairs take months.
