The experience is pretty good, mostly due to the teachers. The rest is eh. College preparedness is a plus though.

Our experience has been very mixed. My kids have received a good education, but some of the teachers have been bad. The administration is horrible and doesn't listen to parents. They promote the rich kids and football. Outside of that your child won't be encouraged. Not a well-rounded school at all. Westlake always seems one step ahead. Look at Vandegrift too. Several area schools ranked higher. If football is your things, go here. Otherwise, don't waste your time. Better, well-rounded schools in the Austin area.

Too many students, not enough diversity, and poor counseling.

If I had to do it again, I would move to Westlake. The middle schools are great and the teachers and administrators were awesome. High school has been a real eye opener. For all the reasons above, I would say to anyone looking to move read the negative reviews and look for substance. Everything i'm writing is a FACT.

All three of my boys graduated from Lake Travis High School and I am a very proud Lake Travis Cavalier parent. My oldest son was not a strong student, but also not identified on any 504 program. It would have been very easy for him to slip through the cracks. The teachers were always offering extra help and encouragement in any subject that was ever a problem for him. The communication with me was superb and I always began the year getting to know the teachers so we could work together for my son. My other two boys excelled in advanced classes and while they aren't easy, they aren't meant to be...AP classes are college level classes so you can expect college level homework. The saddest thing is watching people come in from other places and complain about the amazing schools we have in Lake Travis ISD. Perhaps where they came from was not as demanding or as competitive. I will say that the top 10% in Lake Travis are only separated by .000....that means there is only 1/1000 of a point between #1 in the class and #2 in the class. A 93% average lands you in about the top 33% of your class. That being said, the great colleges in Texas all know Lake Travis and that is taken into consideration in a well rounded student BUT IT WON'T help with the auto admit policy of state schools in Texas and it can hurt your acceptances outside the state... MY ADVICE focus on the SATS and ACTS EARLY. Those matter even more than the class rank.....That all being said, the competitiveness of Lake Travis definitely prepared my kids well for college, but it is something to consider in a college bound student. Do you want them to be part of an amazing community, get a great education and be ready for college? Lake Travis is the place to be. Do you want them to be in a lesser school but be the big fish in a little pond but still be in the top 10%? That is a decision you will have to make. I would not change my experience for one single minute, and neither would my kids. They are proud to tell people they came from Lake Travis and the youngest two are juniors and seniors in college. That speaks volumes. GO CAVS!
