Arlington Classics Academy - Primary School Ratings & Reviews

My children are safe & happy. Each year they’ve had excellent teachers. The K-2 campus is a close-knit group, and I’m satisfied with my child’s academic progress.

Terribly disappointing. Their reputation precedes them which is why we eagerly sent our child to this school. Here’s what we discovered. It’s a classical academy so emphasis is on reading and writing with average expectations for math and science. They set unrealistic expectations for children. Our child is bright, happy, super outgoing and they want to stifle him. They want to suppress his inquisitive spirit because it’s easier for them to teach fully compliant kindergartners. They threaten children with getting their calendars signed, taking away griffin bucks, revoking recess and fun Friday for bad behavior. Let’s be clear here. My child is a normal 5 year old. He’s asked to be perfectly compliant all day from 7:45 to 3:05. His teacher is not forgiving and sets the precedent that children that get their calendar signed are “bad” kids. My child has been made aware that this school has a waitlist so that means that they should feel privileged to be there. That if they leave another more deserving child will fill their place. I think this is why parents don’t complain or why no one hears their complaints. If you have any concerns you will NOT be heard. They’ll be more than happy if you just go somewhere else.

I couldn't say enough about how happy we are to be at ACA. It is an absolutely awesome environment with supportive staff and teachers from the top. They care about their students and you can tell. If there were 10 stars to give they would have earned them. We love it! Our son has flourished. My sister is a teacher at a private school and the curriculum at ACA is either completely comparable or in some cases exceeds. I was one of the on the fence Mom's about the transition but I can tell you I feel like it has been one of my best decisions to date.

We are so happy to have our son here. It's amazing what these students are capable of when given the proper learning environment.

"ACA stands for Arlington Classics Academy and was founded to give really smart kids a place to grow and develop their passions. Think about this...Public schools exist to teach to the average students and other charter schools exist for troubled or learning challenged students. ACA was a place for the smart kids whose parents could not afford the private school alternative. And my kids and a lot of other kids grew and blossomed under the caring but rigorous curriculum. Each grade was taught at a level one grade above the school district requirement and the results were evident in the scores of the state mandated tests. The school could make smart kids great, average kids better and/or could provide a safe place of learning for those who could not find that haven in public schools. It was never designed for kids who don't want to learn. Yet, some parents still insist that ACA ""fix"" their kids which is not what their charter intended. Now, because the administration is more interested in pursuing student dollars, the school is rapidly dropping in quality. Some of the principals are allowing students who have issues get away with their aggressive and disruptive acts and often side with parents over the teacher when trying to issue reprimands. The mantra of quality through hard work (by the students, teachers AND PARENTS) has been replaced with the quest for dollars and the ""participation trophy/everyone is a winner"" mindset. It is a false ideology and will not prepare your child for life in the adult world.BRING BACK THE OLD ACA!"
