I'm shocked that Great Schools has demoted Stanford's score to a 5/10. I've reviewed Stanford in the past and won't do it all over again, but I will simply say that it is a great school. I have had my children in five Metro Nashville schools over the years. This school is amazing. Look at how they rate schools, solely by test scores and racial equity. The State of Tennessee Department of Education is incompetent and I would put little stock in scores from an organization that has a three year record of testing disasters. As for racial equity, this is a diverse school with families from all over the world as its yearly Festival of Nations testifies. They are not miracle workers. They cannot single-handedly overcome hundreds of years of institutionalized racism and oppression. But its a good school and works hard to help children advance.

As a big proponent of Montessori education, I strongly feel this is a goldmine for MNPS. It provides Montessori education for families who would not have the funds or opportunity to learn in this environment. The downside to this is trying to put this learning format within the standardized public school standards and testing requirements, resulting in a lighter Montessori approach, which is understood but rather unfortunate. The measurement of its success cannot be accurately measured through testing score, as what is shown on this website. Montessori, even in light form, is a wonderful way to not only approach academics, but to also instill self-motivation and pride for one's self and work. The multi age classrooms are wonderful as well. It instills a sense of community, as well as being a good and thoughtful citizen. Additionally, student are able to learn more thoroughly from both their teachers and classmates, and through demonstration of lessons students retain more information. There is, unfortunately, no middle school option or direct pathway at this time, which I hope the district will consider for the future. Studies consistently show that hands on, experience based learning works tremendously well, which is the foundation of Montessori education. You will find a wonderful glimpse of this in this school, and it is a wonderful school in which to support and have our children attend.

Montessori curriculum is great at teaching your child basic problem-solving skills and allows your child to be a free thinker, which is essential to success in life. It focuses on the needs of the child and helps them deal with emotions, while becoming independent. I love the level of parental involvement and the diversity of this school (racially and economically). The principal, teachers and staff show strong commitment to the children. Although Montessori isn’t for every child, I would highly recommend this for any child showing initiative in their learning and who is confident in their abilities. The major downside is this is a MNPS school and therefore not completely Montessori-driven, but the staff does an excellent job in closely practing the curriculum as much as administration allows. Overall excellent experience and perfect transition from Vanderbilt daycare, which provides a similar curriculum.

My fourth grade son goes here, He had just won the lottery. In third grade, he was a fouth grade reading level. I was alright with it. But when I moved him to Stanford he had a seventh grade reading level. I was impressed. After a few weeks, his math and science and history scores went up also. I was pleased. I signed him up for chess club and he got A's on EVERYTHING. I was amazed. I recommend this school to anyone

Stanford Montessori is the best kept secret of the Metro School system. My son has been attending since he won the lottery (you have to apply for the lottery in October of the year before age 3 and the preschool/pre-k programs are sliding scale). The school groups students age 3 thru K and 1st-3rd grade in classes so students can learn from older peers and older peers can learn empathy by teaching others; the 4th graders are separate to prepare for entry into non-Montessori schools (most students seem to progress to magnet schools). My son is a 4yo (pre-k) now, and he has learned so much more than I would ever think possible for his age. He is scheduled to be reading 6 mos before turning 5!!! The Montessori platform on which the school is based promotes independence and a love of learning. It meets the child where he is at whether it be special needs, gifted, behaviorally challenged, etc. Finally, the parents are so involved that you might mistake the school for a private school atmosphere. Overall, we love Stanford and would recommend it to anyone in the Metro School system.
