Episcopal School Of Knoxville Ratings & Reviews

We have been at ESK for four years and have been very pleased with the quality of education our child is receiving. Class sizes are small, and there are two teachers per class, making for a very personalized learning experience. The school maintains a warm and loving environment with caring and compassionate teachers, administrators, and staff. As my child put it, “It feels like home.”

ESK is a great school! They provide a safe, challenging and fun educational environment. I've been associated with ESK for more than 10 years. My children were well prepared for high school and beyond. They loved going to school and enjoyed the friendly community. ESK is a respectful community of faith and all people are respected and welcome. I highly recommend ESK to anyone looking for small classes, well qualified teachers, kind administrators, strong academics and friendly students.

My daughter is in the 5th Grade at ESK's middle school and she is having a fantastic experience! She loves her new classes and teachers and independence (not to mention the panini press at lunch). As a parent, I love that she is getting exposure to 3 world languages (Latin, Spanish and Mandarin) and 3 types of music classes (String Band, Chorus and Concert Band) so that she can learn which one she wants to pursue going forward. I also appreciate the leveled math classes so that students can learn at their own pace. This allows those students that are ready to learn math concepts more quickly to advance rapidly. There are many unique and enriching extra-curricular activities and clubs available to ESK Middle School students. Anyone looking for a school that is truly a community - where their child will be truly known and loved for their uniqueness, challenged in the most productive yet nurturing manner, and prepared for High School and the world beyond, ESK is the right choice.

I am a parent at the Episcopal School, and I love it. The teachers are warm and wise with kids. The students learn to love learning through exploration and discovery. Teachers enjoy their very good student/teacher ratio, and they have the freedom to teach with passion. This inspires the love of learning in kids. On top of that, the Episcopal School of Knoxville might be the only place in town for families who want a top notch education with a patient, developmental approach to their child's spiritual formation. They truly welcome families and work to create a real community of nurture and learning that respects the worth of each child as beloved of God.

My children attended ESK for many years. The K-2 years were very sweet for my children. However, as they got older we realized they were not meeting the academic standards compared to children in other private and public schools. There is not a reading comprehension program in place, the children are not taught basic grammar concepts and the school lacks a writing program. Parents do not realize how far behind their children are until they leave the school. At first glance, the school appears warm, inviting and sweet. The school lacks discipline, leaving the classroom chaotic and little time to focus on academics. The school has continued to decrease the student enrollment, leaving them to add Pre-K programs to make up the deficit. The Lower School Director does not like for parents to come to her with any concerns regarding academics or the teachers. There are several teachers who have had complaints against them. Many of these complaints are serious and involve teachers mistreatment of students. I recommend anyone who is considering ESK to ask to see the ERB scores and ask specific questions about their academics.
