Briarcrest Christian Middle School Ratings & Reviews

Briarcrest gave my kids a very strong academic foundation. Better academically than St. George's. Briarcrest also is a Christian school and it shows. Briarcrest is the best decision you can make.

I attended Briarcrest starting in early elementary school and graduated last May. I was very active in athletics, and I finished in the top 10% of my class. If you are interested in a private school that is academically equal to many public schools in the area then send your kid here. I was enrolled in honors and AP classes the entire time I was at Briarcrest, and I can honestly say that the only honors department worth your while at Briarcrest is the mathematics department. The English department is very average, but AP English on the other hand is a very good and challenging course that will prepare your child well for college English. I had a good experience at the school, but if you are solely looking for a private school in the academic perspective, look more towards MUS or St. Georges.

I don't know what school the last reviewer was talking about, because Briarcrest has been a wonderful school for our children. My high schooler and my middle schooler both have said that they 'like going to school'. They are in honors courses, participate in athletics and the arts and have excelled on standardized tests (PSAT) and ACT. Obviously the academics are stong as evidenced by the number of students who were accepted into the top schools in the nation, including Ivy League. I'm sorry the last two reviewers had bad experiences, but if you are considering Briarcrest for your child, decide for yourself....tour the school, ask about the matriculations. But the best evidence that I have noticed is the optimistic and upbeat outlook and attitude that the students and teachers have. They are truly happy being there.

Briarcrest is not a highly academic school, the tell brainwash the community about their academic excellence, but you will find that they do not exceed in their academics, rather they often fall behind the county schools in performance. Watch your pocketbook, The constant badgering for money from parents, grandparents, etc. was horrible. The bullying and pressure from some students to others was unbearable for some students who might not be able to afford the 'right' shoes, pants, handbag, back-pack, cellphone, etc. So much emphasis is put on status that education becomes a sideline. Think twice, even three times before you make this mistake.

My children attended Briarcrest for one year at the elementary level. I felt that Briarcrest s curriculum was not challenging for my children. The AR program was not based on any type of testing and my children were reading books under their ability level. The AR list is rather small so the number of books available for students to read is far less than one would receive in other schools. I also felt that the teachers did not get to know my children on an academic or personal basis. The parent involvement is greatly lacking. In my opinion, they seem to really prefer that parents drop off and go. My children have attended other Christian schools where the families were involved and were part of a community, where the school, church, PTO and parents worked together. The positives of the school were their music program and the religious education.
