This elementary school is a whole academic year behind versus other schools. Everything my son did in 1st grade at ILE, was LESS than what he did in kindergarten with the MACS system. After one year at this school, I took my son out and put him back in the MACS school system. When he got to second grade, he had issues with reading comprehension, grammar, and math, because ILE does not cover material related to the grade level that the children are in. I highly recommend MACS and not the ILE school district, if you want your child to have a good foundation in education.

We had one student in this school for almost 2 years and it was an awful experience. The staff were condescending, rude, and snide to my wife and I. The building is gross and the teachers are focused on everything but academics. Churches are allowed to come on campus and talk to students. An after school club was sponsored by one of the Indian Land churches. This made our family uncomfortable.

I have two children in this school who have gone through 3rd, 4th and 5th grades here. I have mixed feelings about the school. We moved here from up north and we were surprised by the lack of proper funding in SC schools in general. I am also surprised and dismayed by the mix of religion into the school environment. That City of Light PTL televangelism center that has a large campus a mile from the school is unappealing but that this school district invites preachers from there to talk at pep rallies and sports functions is appalling. One science teacher even told my child she doesn't believe in evolution but is required to teach it. Beth Blum is an excellent principal who tries very hard. She genuinely cares and I see her out there with the kids all the time. Lancaster County in general has a good gifted program called Eagles in which this school participates. The leader of that program is very progressive and is amazing. It would be great if the regular weekday learning could also follow that model. Continued->
