Governor's School For Arts And Humanities Ratings & Reviews

I graduated from SCGSAH in 2003, and have had the past 14 years to reflect on how this school influenced my life. The experiences here were intense but one-of-a-kind. This is not a school for the faint of heart, in my experience, but my years there helped establish a discipline and accountability that has proven priceless in my adult life. My fellow classmates were the smartest and most talented high schoolers in SC, and proved to be incredibly supportive and motivational. Our professors and administrators were not only college-level educators, but also esteemed professionals in their own arts communities. We were encouraged to question the things we had been taught in the past, all within the safe community of a tight-knit and well-supervised residential high school, with RAs and mentors who provided both a shoulder to cry on and a kick in the pants when needed! If it had not been for my experience at Governor's School, I would have never had the opportunities for scholarships, travel, and continuing education that I did, especially coming from a rural, extremely low-income town in SC. If you or your child ever have the opportunity to attend SCGSAH, please jump at the chance. There's no other time in my life that I would like to go back and redo, except for my two years living at SCGSAH, and I know my life-long friends and fellow alumni agree whole-heartedly.

Great school, it's beautiful, sophisticated and only for the best.

The only complaint I have about SCGSAH is that it is impossible to explain just how incredible my time there truly was to an uninformed outsider. It s not a place for the faint of heart that tiny space populated by talented, driven people was quite the pressure cooker at times. But it was also extremely supportive, to the spirit and the artistic prowess. I would recommend it to anyone willing to change for the better in every way possible and to learn what it really means to devote oneself. The teachers are the absolute best in their fields. My entire outlook on learning has changed, and I know I m not alone in that. Exposure to alternative texts and media is a big part of Governor s School life, and a big part of just why those two(-four) years are so valuable.

A great public school that is so small that it might as well be a perfect private school. Terrific environment. Uncomfy beds. A life-changing experience.
