Midway Elementary School of Science and Engineerin Ratings & Reviews

My son is in third grade at Midway and in terms of education I have no major complaints. In terms of the way the school treats the students, most especially those who may not be quite as financially blessed as most of the others, that's a whole other kettle of fish. For example, they have said that any child whose lunch account is not paid in full will not be able to get their report card next week. This won't apply to my child as we always send his lunch ever since a nasty mix up in which the school sent out threatening letters to the wrong parents last year. However, this does make me worry about the kids who have worked hard this nine weeks and now because of something they have nothing to do with will not be able to see their report card. There have been many, many similar incidents in the four years that my son has been at Midway. The blatant divide between the "haves" and the "have-not's" is palpable at every school function. Things are set up so as to make it very uncomfortable or absolutely impossible for those with less to participate and in so doing it causes a divide amongst the children that is frequently perpetuated by the call from teachers and administrators to spend money and bring money and buy more, more, more. The teachers and administrators of this school and at the district level need to take a good long look in the mirror and really think about how they are treating the children, ALL of the children.

I would highly recommend Midway Elementary to anyone moving to the area who is looking for a top notch elementary school. My children have attended for three years and love school! It is a very open and friently environment that welcomes parents' help and participation. The principal even knows every child's name. From academics, extra curricular activities and special events, you won't find a better school in the Anderson area.

I truly think that Midway is a great school. My daughter loves Mr. Bruhjell and for the most part really loves her teachers. However, the one thing I would change is when you are dealing with a seperated family, the school has a tendancy to treat the parent without guardianship like a convicted felon. After discussion this can be remedied, but at first it makes a parent not want to come to this establishment to visit their child.

Midway is an amazing school! The faculty and staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome. The teachers maintain high expectations for students while creating a pleasant learning atmosphere. The school has received many awards including the Exemplary Writing Award, Red Carpet Award, Literacy Spot Award, and Palmetto Gold Incentive Awards. Truly an outstanding school.
