Joseph H. Gaudet School Ratings & Reviews

Our 3rd child to attend Gaudet will finish 8th grade this year (May 2018). We have been very pleased with the caliber of teachers and administrators over the years (since (2003-2018). Our children have been challenged, given individualized attention frequently, especially when needed or requested, and achieved accordingly. Teachers and administrators have always seemed invested in the students' future; they have kept ahead of the state and country with updated curricula each year and have regularly enlisted input and support from parents and the community. They've provided innovative extra- and co-curricular activities through fundraisers, support from the PTG, a local non-profit education organization, and lots of staff volunteer time. Unfortunately, the town continues to underfund the schools, so the facilities are kept operating through seemingly temporary band-aid repairs.

overall, my two years in this school were mediocre. they could have gone worse but they also could have gone much better. some of the teachers are good but others are NOT. they're bitter and some don't really care about their students. others walk around the halls and yell at students for doing normal things.

I'm a student at this school and it can suck sometimes. Okay, most of the time. I'm currently now in the 8th grade and PRAYING I don't make the mistake of getting the wrong teacher. The food is alright, but is pretty much painted cardboard. There are only a few good teachers, and the rest either make no sense or are extremely judgemental. Same thing with the principals. They are SOOO annoying and their motto is "Be Gaudet Great!" You know what I think of that, I would rather be slapped in the face with a sock full of buttter than go to them for help. On my left it says the community rating is 3 stars out of 5. Psh, it's more like 1!!! My brother is going to this school next year and I've warned him countless times how bad it is. Since this is the only public middle school in Middletown, you are pretty much being held up against your will. I may sound melodramatic, oh wait that was one of our lame "Vocab Words" that we "learned." I don't care if Mr. M or Mrs. B sees this, actually they should, more to the point, this school sucks. BIGTIME.

I have had a child at Gaudet for the past 2 years. We are a military family-- so move around a lot and certainly have many other schools to compare. Gaudet excels in creating a positive and safe environment for their students. The Principal and guidance counselors are extremely accessible and encourage parent involvement and feedback. I have found the majority of teachers to be open and responsive as well to parent feedback. Gaudet hasn't been given the respect it deserves and is continually underrated-- especially compared to Portsmouth Middle School. Last year, the 8th grade class at Portsmouth had numerous fights, drug and bullying issues. You just don't see that at Gaudet. Definitely worth looking it!!
