My daughter is in first grade at OSMS after completing the 3-year cycle of preschool (P1 and P2) and Kindergarten. We love this school. My daughter wakes up excited to go to school every day and has a love of learning because of OSMS. The curriculum, which highlights learning by doing through work with specialized Montessori materials, fosters my child's natural curiosity and independence. The literacy and math instruction is excellent, but my child also loves her art, PE, and Spanish classes. Last year, her favorite class was science in which she conducted experiments that made her excited about the subject. She also takes part in after-school programs like Community Service Club, LEGO engineering, and chess. Beyond the academics, my daughter learns the importance of being a good friend and community member, she learns life skills like how to set a table or greet a visitor, and how to mediate conflict. The teachers are highly trained, supportive, and committed to the entire school community. Ms. Amy, the head of school, could not be better: loving, responsive, and an expert in education (particularly the Montessori model). The culture and environment of the school can only be described as warm. Just visit and you will know what I mean. There is nothing more important than knowing your child is safe, happy, and developing into a lifelong learner. OSMS delivers all of that and then some. Do yourself a favor and check out this special place.

We've been at OSMS since 2013 and I have seen both of my boys blossom under the Montessori Method. The education they receive is tailored to their individual learning styles and fosters independence, creativity, and critical thinking. The amazing OSMS teachers and staff encourage academic growth and emotional and social development as well. Best of all my kids love to go to school and love learning - they are gaining skills and a passion for discovery that will stay with them throughout their lives. OSMS is more than just a remarkable school; it is a wonderful and supportive community of families and friends.

The beauty of the Montessori method, for our children, has been that it provides an engaging work environment where the kids can explore their "works" and are encouraged to delve deeper into the subjects that spark interest. It allows time for focussed learning without distractions and transitions. My children come home interested in the history, art, music and math they might be doing in the class. There are 2-3 teachers in the 1-3rd grade classroom and they all know and work with the kids so well. We were just told about an issue that arose with some kids playing soccer during recess. I was impressed how the teachers took the group aside and had the kids come up with solutions and empowered them to problem solve. Children are treated with dignity and held accountable for themselves. They come home with great communication skills and I hear them using language of respect for others. The other great benefit of the school is the very flexible after school program. For working parents it was a relief to have that option.

Both of my daughters have been through the primary program and we could not be happier. It is probably not the best choice for you if you are a helicopter parent who wants to do everything for your child. If you want your child to learn independently this school will show them how in the most nurturing and secure way. We love that they teach the children manners as part of the curriculum, so they learn the importance of the perspective of their peers. Their focus grows to that larger community beyond "me and mine" Send your three year old to this school. You will love it when they come home and help you fold the laundry!

Perfect for some families. Not for everyone. Our child attends OSMS and enjoys it. The children there are very good to each other, at least from what we have seen. They are confident and secure and very supportive of each other. If you are looking for a Montessori school that adheres to a very rigid Montessori philosophy, this is your school. If you are looking for a classroom where parents are invited to participate with their child's education, this may not be for you. We have mixed feelings about the rigidity, and we wish they were more comforting for sad children. More classroom participation opportunities would also be nice. Parents are not welcome to participate in ordinary classroom activities -- even in preschool and kindergarten. Parent committees appear somewhat disorganized and meet very irregularly. On the other hand, the teachers are extremely competent and we have no worries about bullying -- which could easily be a problem for our child at another school. Our child is definitely becoming more confident and independent and, as far as academics go, we certainly feel that this school provides a good, solid foundation for future success.
