Corl Street El School Ratings & Reviews

This is a very special school. The teachers are well qualified, focused, and care for their students. I've found it very easy to communicate with the teachers. The principal seems very involved in the day to day and sends a weekly update to parents on what's going on at school. There's a culture of high expectations. Great PTO! Also, I love the garden and community feel.

We've been with Corl Street Elementary since the beginning of this year, and feel it's right to give them a huge 5 stars. My son has a medical condition that keeps him out of school for several days at a time, and the school has been nothing but supportive! We know of MANY other schools who couldn't deal with this. If you have a similar situation, I give Corl Street an A+

The CS is a great school for K-2 graders, for the teachers (K-2) are really qualified, and know how to deal with kids by the right way. But now everything is different. The new homeroom teacher (3rd grade) is too young to handle the kids, and the math teacher is too pushy, for she blamed my daughter for anything wrong in Math class, but not anything wrong with the teacher's own teaching way. Does she really know how to teach 3rd graders math problems? I doubt it. Also, the principal is very hard to talk to him, and I really miss the previous secretary in main office, Ms. Fox, for she always responds when I ask for help.

Corl Street has great reputaion especially academically and I strongly think great paretns in the community made that reputation. Parents really care and deeply involved in their kids' ed. Meanwhile, I greatly disappointed to the leadership of the new principle. He is not willing to communicate wtih parents. I feel he is only a servant of SD (I am trying not be rude but no other word comes up in my mind.) As you already know, kids' sucess is strongly associated with the teacher. Most of the teachers are nice and work hard. Like other schools, some of them are more academically pushy while others are not. Again, if CS is better than others, I would credit parents than others.

This is a wonderful school for grades K through 2. Over the past 5 years, the K through 2 teachers showed a commitment to teaching children through instruction and challenging assignments. K through 2 teachers also provided good feedback of what the class and your child worked on each week through the use of written weekly summaries and/or website updates. Sadly, the wheels come off the bus during grades 3 and 4. The school work assignments became significant less challenging, the homework was few and not challenging enough to exceed 15 minutes to complete. IMO supplemental work provided by parents is definitely required. Communication and feedback from teachers dwindles at these grade levels: very little correspondence and lack of updates to individual teacher websites. Class size varies significantly each year. Some classes may be as small as 15 students while other classes may have about 26 students. Principal too new to rate.
