Outstanding. As a public school they have been stripped of many resources like other schools, however, they still maintain excellent teaching and test scores.

Masterman has been a good school for a very long time, but I find it disturbing that the school asks for donations almost every month. The school has some amazing teachers and some extremely lazy teachers who don't teach and tell kids to read silently. There are teachers who know they have secured a job for the years until their retirement and do not care about your child's success at school. Bullying is a huge issue at Masterman; either it is handled wrongly or ignored by teachers. Classes 7-1,7-3,7-3,7-4 are the ALGEBRA classes, and they think they have a 75% chamce to be accepted to the high school. Only half of each of these classes are actually in Algebra. The material is basically the same as Pre Algebra. Although there are many clubs, you must have teacher recommendation letters to get in and possibly donate money for the club. Half of these kids are snobby, rich, have parents with power, think they are better than anyone else, and teachers pass everyone, so it seems that "YOU GOT AN A AT MASTERMAN CONGRATS!!!!". The building is infested with vermin and falling apart. There are other hig school in PA with higher test scores than Masterman.

My child was diagnosed with an attention deficit disorder, and I found absolutely no help at Masterman. The teachers are uninvolved & unsympathetic, and the Principal and SEC are completely hands off. To truly support these gifted & bright kids, Masterman needs to learn to embrace diversity of intellect. Not all kids are robots, and being gifted doesn't mean you all learn the same way. The onus is on the kids to achieve regardless of disability, and it creates an environment of not so subtle derailment & despair. I had to fight tooth & nail for over TWO YEARS to get even a basic assessment done, and once a diagnosis was made (both by the school and privately) I still found little to no help. In addition, there is rampant bullying, threatening behavior, and little to no communication from teachers. Do yourself & your children a favor & don't believe the hype surrounding Masterman. Find a school that supports every kid, not just the robotic overachievers.

The school is full of kids who THINK they are the best and brightest but only about 1/2 of them really are. The environment is terrible with serious bullying that seems to be allowed. Most of the teachers are average, they just have relatively smart kids go teach so it is easy to have success

What was once a great school with a thriving environment under the leadership of principal Neff is now being driven into the ground by a much too inexperienced principal with poor leadership skills. I pulled both of my children this year.
