Mater Dei Catholic School Ratings & Reviews

"While everyone is entitled to their opinion, the comments on Feb. 6 from ""community member"" suffer from egregious factual errors needing correctionTo state that academics do not meet minimum standards & are mediocre is outright wrong. Mater Dei received their update Middle States review in 2015-2016 and that national organization had nothing but raves for academic and the school as a whole. In just the last 2 yrs, 8th graders have received over $640K in high school scholarships to schools like LaSalle, Gwynedd Mercy, Mt. St. Joseph, and St. Joe's Prep - and they had a Neumann Scholar last year.Enrollment has not declined but increased every year since 2014-2015. This year's increase (to 547)was larger than usual because of the closing of SASH, but even without those students numbers were up from 486 to 501. And the influx from SASH is NOT a trivial inflation: of all the Catholic schools in the area, including those much closer to SASH parishes, MDCS received the highest number of students from SASH -- and the majority of those (not graduating) are being retained into 2017-18.The school building is indeed old. However since its opening in 2012 over half a million dollars in capital improvements have been made including new windows, carpeting, lighting, roof replacements, boiler replacement, just to name a very few. As for ""outdated methods"" and no ""innovation"" the school has a 1:1 iPad program for 4-8 grade meaning every student in 4th through 8th grade gets an iPad to keep for their whole career at the school. iPads on carts are used by Pre-K to 3. SmartBoards in every room, two full computer rooms, 2 3D printers, Lego Lab, STEM center. Plus Spanish in EVERY grade and Honors English & Math for Middle school. Uniquely the school has two Academic resource centers, one for 1-4 and one for 5-8 with dedicated full time teachers for students needing greater attention.Lastly, to address clicks (sic) among old time families"" Frequently in all schools, the families around the longest are more involved because of familiarity which seem like cliques. But new family participation is constantly pushed. Perfect example, Bag Bingo a month ago was run by numerous parents from lower grades many of whom had not been involved before.I think you get the picture. The school invites tours at any time. Come see for yourself rather than listen to misinformation. Thank you."

This is a wonderful school. It is a secure environment with strong academics and faith based values. Teachers, staff and Principal truly care about the children and their families. Worth the financial sacrifice.

This school does not meet the minimum standards for education and facilities. Overall, academics are mediocre for the area. The school is run down, outdated as are the teaching and administration methods. Grades are often given by aggressively hounding the Principal and teachers. Enrollment continues to decline even at the older grades. The public numbers are inflated by the acquisition of some students from the closing of three catholic schools in the area. Family means clicks not inclusion. The public schools are a much better option for this area.

Mater Dei is a great school and has so much more value than the north Penn schools in the area. The one negative commenter is completely off base. Go visit this school -they take tours all the time and you'll see for yourself the best school in the area!! The academics & technology and arts plus all the values the children learn will prepare them well for high school and beyond.

Mater Dei is an excellent school! The teachers are very dedicated and my 2 children have just excelled in their learning at Mater Dei! They offer lots of extra activities that the kids can participate - arts, sports & academic clubs & social events.
