Canadochly El School Ratings & Reviews
My oldest son has gone to Canadochly since he was in Kindergarten. With the exception of one teacher who we had issues with, his other teachers have all been exceptional. My youngest son started this year and is in Kindergarten now. He loves his teacher and has learned a lot from her. There's a lot that I love about this school. It's small and the staff is great about learning all the kid's names and even getting to know all the parents. When I come into the office, I don't even have to tell them my child's name because they know right away who my child is. Previous teachers that my oldest child had are constantly asking me how he is and how he's doing and remember him by name. The school always supplies everything my kids need at the beginning of the year. I haven't had to shop for school supplies the entire six years my kids have attended Canadochly. The only thing I've had to purchase are a few 3 ring binders since they have a habit of tearing and ripping. But pens, pencils, crayons have all been supplied to my children every year that they've attended Canadochly. The PTO puts on a really nice May Fair each year for the children. They have activities throughout the year that the kids can participate in. While there could always be more, I think the PTO does a great job with the activities they do plan and the field trips that they help fund. Now, my gripe. This school has no air conditioning. It gets darn hot in there. I felt awful sending my children into that at the beginning of the school year when I knew how hot it was going to be. I went to back to school night and honestly thought I was going to pass out from the heat. While I hate to see the school incur the expense for air conditioning for just 1-2 months of use, I wish there was something that could be done to cool the rooms when there is excessive heat days. All in all though, Canadochly has treated us well. My kids love the school and most of the teachers. Issues had been dealt with right away for the most part. And supplies seem to be in good shape for use. My oldest leaves this year for Eastern Middle School so I'm hoping they are as good.
I attended this school and now my son goes there as well. It is not the best looking school and it irritates me that it lacks air conditioning..especially since the district is sending them back earlier every year and the temperature is still very high. The teachers are wonderful and go out of their way to help the students. The office personnel are exceptional as well. Canadochly has always felt like a comfort zone for my child and he is already dreading changing schools when we move out of the district..
The teachers I've encountered have been positive but seem worn down. The office and principal avoid conflicts and seem to gloss over problems. Teachers and principal don't communicate well. There is no air conditioning. The supplies are none existant. The PTO has a fortune in the account yet parents have to supply pencils, erasers, snacks etc. I would transfer my child if possible.
The gym does NOT have carpet. The Principal is not very authoritative, but I would never say she is not qualified for her possition. Not sure what that other fool is talking about. Anyway, the teachers are great and learn students names quickly whether they are in their class or not. The only drawback is no air conditioning. It is not a rich school, but that actually adds to its charm and the reliable status of the teachers. My daughter loves it here and even wants to go school on Saturdays!
This school is old. The gym has CARPET! and thats been there for over 20 years. The principal is not worthy of her position and hates conflict and discipline of any type. There is bullying that is overlooked as well as an older staff that hates to teach to the standard. They have no creativity and the laptops that are available are only used by 2 teachers. They are so far behind that I send our son for further studies elsewhere. If you are planning to move here go to Wrightsville Elementary and if at all possible go to another district. This district that is broke and has many working poor that it best to take their money and put astro turf on their football field whenthey haven't had a football program worthy of a win loss difference in over 20+ years. Run in the other direction!
