Bishop Shanahan High School Ratings & Reviews

Every student and parent are different and have different experiences. Your experience comes from how much you want to be involved. I have found this to be a wonderful school for our family. My last child will be a senior in the next school year.

My daughter is a Junior and each year I hope it gets better, but it only gets worse. She loved her grade school and was excited to go to Shanahan, but was in shock after the first week. She's not in honors or AP classes so they my have a different atmosphere but many of the kids in her classes are so disrespectful to the teachers and so disruptive to the class that it's upsetting to her. She's had teachers cry in class because the students are so relentless. My daughter and I’m sure many of the other students are not like this, but are instead respectful of the teachers and students. In the past she has had a few wonderful teachers here and it helped her get through the year. The teachers she has this year are not great and end up bunching all of the kids in the group of troublemakers. She and everyone else in her classes are told daily that they are the worst group of kids that the school has ever had. Not something you want to hear everyday especially if you're not doing anything. The teachers waist so much time on trying to control the class and telling them how horribly they are that they learn nothing. This is a terrible environment to be in everyday and my heart breaks for my daughter. She hates going to school and comes home upset almost everyday. I've tried to get her to switch schools but she is very outgoing and does have a group of great friends that she doesn't want to leave. This year is so bad she's asked about Cyber School for her senior year. I don’t blame the teachers and actually feel bad for them so does my daughter. I do wish the administration would stop putting all their attention on the kids appearances like boys hair length, girls skirt length, threats of detention because of a hole in your stocking, this may be important but what should be most important in any school Catholic or not should be respectt for others. Students respect for teachers and teachers respect for students should always be the focus.

This school is terrible. The reviewers who say this school deserves zero stars are correct. Teachers/nuns scream at the students all day; they also embarass students in front of other students. The academics are poor and the students are treated like criminals. Out of touch administration. I took my one child out of this school after on year and refuse to send my other children to this school. The bullying is horrible and the administration does nothing. Teachers/guidance are smug. Teachers do not care about the students and do not listen to issues brought up by parents, but rather laugh at them. Save your money. This school is the exact opposite of what they say in orientation. Run away.

this school deserves 0 stars. Students are guilty before they are ever given a chance to be innocent and are treated like toddlers. As a mother of a graduating student I feel as if over the last 4 years I have flushed 30,000 dollars of my hard earned money sending my child to a school with a disciplinarian who thinks of himself as a drill Sargent and treats kids like criminals. Since her freshman year my daughter has spent her nights miserable and often crying worried about the next problem they will have with her. I DO NOT recommend this place for anyone who wants to enjoy their high school career.

Where the administration treats students like toddlers and parents are treated like children. Potential to be such a good school if changes are made at the top.
