I would agree with both other reviews. Not much has changed since 2010-11 when posts were made.Taxes are VERY high--pay the union teacher wages! Taxes are very, very high for what you are getting in regards to class choices/curriculum. Very behind the times. No honors classes. They are concerned about their state test scores. Goes to show you many parents are not researching the options/courses and the sub par teaching. There are some good teachers, but the bad ones are protected. They have figured out the system of teaching students how to take state exams. I hear students and adults stating not impressed. For a bit more in taxes--but a little bit less house and go to USC, Mt. Lebo--lots of options on classes, great course descriptions, preparing students with great classes/options/electives. BP is liberal courses, yet told you have to take them! No true electives in technology, engineering--as you will take years and years of music and art as it is forced upon students every year--Seems many people you talk to--they attended school here, their kids, their grandkids...they do not know what else is out there, do not explore, or demand the value for their high tax dollars! There are no academies--other states offer, IB programs, science and medical, STEM, Legal academy, drama...you can pick which school to attend based on what you might want to take in college...the Science and Medical is taught by local medical school doctors or professors, nurses, even veterinary sciences are included in this academy. You apply--but even if you do not apply and this is your school based on your address, giving access to the students of high quality teachers! Nothing like that at BP. Seems they are stuck in the 1950's. Huge disappointment. Do not buy a home here if from another state, you will be disappointed. They will tell you how the common core is wonderful!

I was surprised to see this district listed among the top 10 in the nation for housing $. The only justification for this is that housing in the Pittsburgh area is so cheap. It also shows how bad a measure test scores are for determining the quality of a school, especially the PSSA which is only given in PA. We moved here from Palatine IL, where the middle school was rated a 6 by GreatSchools and found the quality of the education DRASTICALLY lower. Communication with parents is terrible. Questions to the teachers regarding homework are answered with "check edline" or "check the homework hotline" neither of which is updated regularly enough to be helpful. In an effort to minimize cheating, homework and tests are seldom returned, giving parents nothing to gage their children's progress except the scores reported on edline. Reliance on individual worksheets instead of text books for math, science, and language courses makes parental involvement difficult. Teacher quality varies. Some are very good, others not. The tradition of a teacher strike every time the contracts come up for renewal is a huge problem.

I've sent two children through this school... I would rate the building very good since we taxpayers spend so much money on it.. but the teachers are extremely overpaid and go on strike every 4 or 5 years. The are going on strike in a couple days again... 80+ percent of them are making over $94,000 a year while the average household income in Bethel Park is about $53,000! My daughter was a straight A student and the one time she asked the teacher to help her after school he said your parents would have to pay hime $100 per hour. I rate the teachers very low.
