Hiram W Dodd El School Ratings & Reviews

My son is a student at Dodd in the second grade. He has been there for three years and he loves it! He works very hard and is rewarded for his achievements. We work together at home and read all the time! Too many parents blame the system and do no work at home. A teacher can only educate an open mind, those who send their children to school as if it's a daycare would be disappointed! Proud parent of an Eager Reader! As far as the race card, people really need to grow up because Dodd is a beautiful school! From the crossing guard to their new VP and Principal of course... We Love Dodd!

The teachers and the counselor are great. However it must be impossible for them to perform their job to the fullest, with all of the road blocks that the administrator had put in place. The administrator refuses to give the students recess, or use the playground that is on the school grounds, and she will not let parents form a PTA. Despite the predominately Hispanic population, and Spanish speaking children, there is no English as a Second Language program. It must be a very disheartening school to work in, when the Principal creates an environment that prevents learning and communication.

I come from Puerto Rico where greatly emphasize spelling, writing and reading, teachers have more days off and there are no substitutes like here but really children acquire knowledge that too much to overcome U.S. education

My son went to school here for 5 years and I regret not moving sooner to get him into a better school. My son needed extra help in reading which they refused to give him due to too mny non english speaking students that needed the help more and passed my son every marking period with high marks. Once he started his new school in the 5th grade he was working on a 3rd grade level in several areas. I was appalled that Dodd would have passed him! He's now doing much better and working on or above average in his classes. This school needs big help all around.

Poor, poor, poor. That's all I can say about Dodd. I guess it really depends on your ethnicity, or lack there of, to get a quality education from them. My son is gifted and should be in a gifted class, but he was not chosen. Instead, they continue to send him math homework home, when he need extra help in in writing. My child never gets anything other than math to complete. From what I can see from the overall test scores there, they can use a little help in the reading area.
