Chapman Hill Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

Smaller school with strong teachers, a fantastic principal, and fun learning. My kids say they don't like school anymore though.. we have 2 there. There could be other things going on that I may not be aware of. LRC math teacher needs to be assessed.. sounds like she has some inappropriate behavior & is not very empathetic towards students. My son won't eat hot lunch because he believes they will make him eat it all. Let the parents worry about what their kids eat. Also, if there is a fire during lockdown (when a dangerous person may be in the building), the kids have to stay in the building and wait for help. ??

So far my experience with the school has been pretty negative my son has been bullied for the first time this year granted his teacher handled it immediately after I notified her. But he was also misplaced in reading group because she did not have enough time to adequately assess him. When she retested him she found out he was where he needed to be. I also have concerns about the principles judgement calls on safety and just getting things repaired at the school there is a handrail that was broken for several months before it was fixed and when I say it was broken it was very easy that somebody could have gotten injured. The playground area doesn't seem to be in very good repair. they don't seem to notice that there's things that need to be fixed out there. The principal will not admit when she's wrong, during a lockdown she did not lock the kids in an actual room she had them out in a common space so if there was an actual threat those kids would have been first to be hit and in this day in age with all the shootings going on this should be something that no principal has a problem doing right and apparently she does. The staff is rude when I volunteer and I have to go to the office if tanya is not the one in the front and I can't ask her for help the other staff there is just downright rude giving off the attitude of how dare this volunteer bother me with their lowly stuff but when we go to the office to ask for something it's because the teacher asked us to do so, so I feel like these Chapman hill Employees should have a little more respect for the people taking time out of their day to help their school succeed. There is no sense of community at the school and I feel like that's something that bothers me the most I'm used to a school that does anything and everything to give that sense of community and help the kids Excel help them problem solve, stop bullying as a team, and make friends but this environment that they have at the school is not conducive to making friends. I have been trying to look for an alternative to the school but my options are private or charter, both of which are not checked on the same way as a public school. They're not held accountable and that's concerning to me. So now I'm stuck with what can I do to make my son's education better and more productive.

My son enrolled in 1st grade in September and it's been a wonderful school year for him so far. From the start, everyone my husband & I have met at the school has gone out of their way to extend a warm welcome. The open house was handled efficiently and in a very organized way, and from the first day in Mrs. Rosendahl's class, I've been impressed by how she has gauged his level of learning, and has somehow adjusted his take-home materials (for reading) and his challenges in class to continually challenge him. In fact, I was shocked to learn that I wasn't challenging him enough at home! He has music every day - what a blessing - and most days has PE as well. I've been impressed by how science is built in to their learning so seamlessly. I couldn't be happier with the caliber of education he's receiving. GREAT SCHOOL!

Chapman Hill-Just started there today. I was greeted warmly the principal who actually spoke to me, not just my daughter! The teacher seems calm and professional. The class room is clean and kid friendly. I am always on the look- out for a teacher who is only trying to impress the parents on the first few days.

I've had children attending Chapman for years, and I love the school. In reference to the librarian/breakfast lady, she does truly care about the kids. I don't find fault in her holding the children accountable. When one of my kids (or their friends) dish up at our house, my response is the same "eat what you take". I've been to the school during lunch time, I see the waste - it's incredible. As parents, we need to work with our children on portion sizes and eating what is in front of us. Yes, waste is to be expected - but not half the tray should be going into the garbage. The school makes sure that kids have great meals to eat, whether they can afford it or not. We need to make sure the kids realize that waste isn't an option under most circumstances. Sure, kids may not be able to eat every bite - it's to be expected, but visit the school during breakfast or lunch, and see for yourself what goes into the trash after these meals - it's eye opening!
