Forced a move on our family. We have lived in Parkrose for 14 years. The district boundary map is like an amoeba. One arm of this amoeba stretches waaaaaay out past two other elementary schools and several congested freeway entrances that clog our surface streets into gridlock- to finally reach our house. But due to our family's medical issues (and weekly medical appointment schedules that are not compatible with the commute this would impose) we were told to "give the district a chance". We were assured that our situation was one that would normally let us go to a school that is half a mile away instead of 3 miles and 4 neighborhoods away. That our district would work with us so that they would not impose a financial hardship and certainly not a medical hardship. So it was a shock when the school denied our request to go to the school that is only a few blocks away. To top it off- they issue their denials at the end of the summer to make it extremely difficult for you to scramble for other arrangements. And talk about dismissive! Wow. I didn't expect that at all. They don't care what you have to do to accommodate their bizarre gerrymandered boundaries. I called in response to their denial letter to let them know that we now had to move. Their response was "oh well". I didn't know what to say. Until I had a family of my own that would attend the schools here, I truly thought of this district as my neighbor for 14 years. I guess I was wrong. I had to dig around a little after all of this happened. I was just mind-boggled. After having so many positive Pre-K experiences with our community, this experience just seemed positively antisocial. And I am now discovering a horrid reputation for the school itself. The district isn't great either, but I've read that this school is especially bad. I have to believe that selling my house at this point will be a blessing in disguise.

My daughter has been a student at Shaver for nearly three years and I will be doing everything possible to transfer her out in the fall. Laura Goodman, the principal, does not care about your children and will write off all of your concerns with staff, bullying, and how policies are carried out. She has no respect for her staff or parents, which is a shame. The school has some good teachers-Ms M as the kids call her kept us at Shaver an extra year as she was amazing and engages the kids. The music program is fun despite it's limitations. But the boot camp way this school is run will destroy any passion for education or creativity your child may have.

So far in two years my daughter has been choked by another student, bullied by multiple students and just today was punched in the stomach by another student! This place has good educated but the bulling and lack of supervision is ridiculous! My daughter should not be getting assaulted! She has no drive to be there anymore which is sad she is only 6!

Shaver leaves a lot to be desired. I have seen teachers in childrens faces yelling at them untill they cry. Teachers walk around the school with a scowl on their face. The turn over is high. This school does not meet up too a grade schools standards. Other th
