I currently attend PCS but I do find some of the things other negative reviews correct. The teachers are great and the staff is as well. However, the kids have cliquey groups. Just because your child goes to private school doesn't mean they won't act like kids from public schools. It's your outside influence! Everybody talks about everybody! This goes for every school private or public. The students who have gone there since they were very young stay together in one group and aren't very inviting. Wish the school was better the money is partially worth it but the students really made it a 3 for me but if it wasn't then I would if it 4 or 4.5.

We chose to put enroll our son in PCS last year as a 6th grader. We moved here from CO where he grew up in an excellent school so our standards were high. PCS proved to be the absolute right choice for us. The teachers are highly qualified and skilled educators and are some of the kindest, most caring humans on the planet. They helped my son's transition to a new state, new city, new school , new classmates, etc. be as smooth and welcoming as possible. Which is saying something going into middle school! :-) This year they have a new jr. high/high school principal, Mrs. James, who has taught and been on staff at PCS for I think over 25 years. Already in her short time leading the charge this year we have seen an even more positive shift in the culture of the school. She leads remarkably well with such joy and kindness for every student. She is incredibly likeable and even more important, she is 100% reliable and knows what she's doing. We are so grateful to be a part of the PCS community and look forward to many more years there.

Please spare your children from this school. While there were some competent and kind staff, a significant number were neither. The Christian values espoused in Chapels were not demonstrated by long-time teachers nor administrators in big ways. It was depressing. Many classmates sought counseling for anxiety and depression during my time there. Much of it is attributable to the high levels of homework that made it difficult to participate in family life, church, and extracurricular activities. They kicked out pregnant females in my time there, as well. The love of Christ was not something I saw well-lived-out here. I hope it has gotten better since the 2000s when I went to PC. I have to add that PC was was cliquey as well. Many of the students at the JR/SR High went to the elementary school as well. It's great for them that they got this consistency is school relationships. My only wish would be that they show the love of God and be inclusive of the new students.

Portland Christian has a great combination of academics and extra-curricular activities that surpass even larger and publicly funded schools. They have outstanding arts programs (art, drama and music classes, art club, fall play, spring musical, choir and band) and a wide range of sports (track, football, basketball, volleyball, soccer). They have a great Christian environment that makes it stand out from the rest. Families drive from all over Oregon and Washington because they believe in the difference that PCS makes in overall development of mind, body and spirit.
