Lane Middle School Ratings & Reviews

This is a good school. However it needs more disciplinary actions and consequences for some of the students. Also this school needs more structure the students get alot of freedom that in my opinion isn't age appropriate for example dances are not monitored very well and the music can be very explicit. The great things about the school is the diversity and the community like feeling and they offer a food pantry abdcalot of resources for low income families.

Lane is changing and improving slowly. It will take more community and parent involvement. The kids are great, they just need more: more support, more love, more activities, a more beautiful campus, and strong leadership. Lane has suffered from neglect by PPS and a revolving door of Principals. The new Principal and Vice Principal are committed and doing their best to instill change. I'd like to see the front office step up their game, be a lot friendlier and welcoming, I'd like to see the teachers join the PTA and show up for community clean up days and be more accessible to the community, and I'd like to see the grounds and the building shine. There is incredible potential in these young people but it's our jobs as parents, community members, teachers and leaders to bring it out. We could all do much better by these young people and we need to start now. As the neighborhood changes come quickly as gentrification has begun, wealthier parents moving in have snubbed the neighborhood schools and left for "greener pastures". It's really hurting our kids. I like to think of Lane as a blank slate that we can all mold and shape into a high quality school with heart. Lane kids deserve more investment and people need to stop stereotyping this school, our kids, and our neighborhood. There is so much more to our story.

Lane middle school is really stepping up their game. Test scores are up and teachers are much better than a few years ago.

Unfortunately for Lane, it is located in a very underserved neighborhood that has been neglected by not only PPS, but also the city of Portland. The school has served as a training ground for Administrators, the last Principal stayed for 18 months before they yanked her! The school is FULL of wonderful Teachers, but it shares the same affliction that many Middle Schools - especially in Portland - share. They are IGNORED by PPS. The scores on here are attributed to the administration. Well, the Superintendent paid more attention to richer schools, and sacrificed Lane and others.

I am a parent , my child attends Lane middle school. I have nothing positive to say about the administrators they have put into place for 2016-2017 school year. they have no respect for the children. there are always fights during school and after. the real bullies are look over with no consequences. while the children that need their help are put out there as the bullies. some of their staff /teachers show the same disrespect to the childeren as administrators. I've tried to transfer my child from this site school, short of moving, they don't want to complies . Lane middle school is all about state funding over the welfare of the children. for each child who attends Lane , the school receives upward of $ 5,000 dollars in funding so as poor as this school is , they protect the funding over the welfare of the children as to not making it easy for you to transfer your child to another school even though their getting bullied. they don't make reports on a lot of what goes on at the school because it's. watch over and it would lower the rating and standing as a school. something they don't want you to know as parents. sad, sad school.
