Cleveland High School Ratings & Reviews

Great electives and a very inclusive student body. This school has the best speech and debate teacher in the state and the IB program is rigorous. The student body is diverse and you can find what you need there. Great community from the principal to the students, to the parents.

Cleveland high school is a good school as far as it goes socially. Very minimal bullying and easy going students, there aren't any gangs, and fights are very rare. Where Cleveland lacks is the staff, they have some extraordinary teachers, but they are greatly outnumbered by the amount of teachers who do the least amount of work possible while still being able to get by. Throughout my high school education, teachers have lost my work and expected me to know things that they haven't put any effort in to teach. Almost every day I see teachers bolting out of there classrooms after the bell rings so that they don't have to deal with students who have questions. Throughout my education, I've noticed that their are two types of teachers. The ones who don't care about the education of students and make the class impossible because they expect you to learn when they don't teach, and the ones who don't care about the education of students and the class is an easy A because they don't feel like grading work. History classes are also taught with bias. Cleveland is very liberal and teachers push their views onto other students and imply that liberal is good and conservative is bad.

I didn't fall into a particular club or program as a freshman, and as a result had almost no connection with staff after a year of taking their classes. Knowing what happened in my home life during the following years of high school, I almost certainly would have dropped out of Cleveland (as seriously-over-a-dozen kids I knew did). Luckily, a counselor I only met twice at mandatory freshman check-ins noticed that my grade pattern was unusual and that I could probably be doing way better than I was- somewhere else. (Sometimes the system works!) The nudge to leave did the trick, and I found a program that worked fantastically. I was a straight A student involved with the staff and school community, same with college.

Cleveland High school has been a really awesome experience until this last year of my daughters education. The drama department, voice and science departments have been particularly amazing. Voice, led by Diane R. has won stste championships year after year and has been a great encouragement for the students. The science teachers and classes have given my daughter a great head start to her college career and have prepared her very well. The drama department, once dominated by Jane Ferguson (exceptional teacher of the milenium) is now occupied by a "teacher" from another school. If your child is into drama, I would suggest another school but if voice or science is their thing, GO TO CLEVELAND!

This is probably one of the best school in the state. There is plenty of selections in classes, and everything else. Students are VERY NICE HERE AND THERE ARE NO GANGS. The drug and alcohol lovers steer clear of campus most of the time, and fighting is strictly prohibited. I came from one of PPS's worst schools, Grant, and found that Cleveland is so different and so much better. Many of the problems of being cussed at by upper class men, being called out in front of the class, and the administration doing nothing do not happen here. Unless you love shop or art (as we have few art classes and no vocational classes) you will be at home here. If your student is bright, this is the school-it has a full IB program!
