Ainsworth Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

I have been enormously impressed with Ainsworth overall. We moved Ainsworth from an overcrowded and challenged suburban school in Beaverton. Ainsworth offers tremendous resources and caring, well trained teachers. My daughter had 23 kids in her 3rd grade class with a very experienced, thoughtful teacher. The music, art and computer instruction is WAY above average for the district. The Afterschool program is truly outstanding and reasonably priced. Giving Ainsworth 1/5 starts is completely crazy--this can only stem from bitterness because specific needs were not met. Ainsworth is not perfect. There was has been an overcrowding problem in some grades, which can happen in any public school. The families do tend toward the elitist and we have had a hard time breaking in to find friends. The building is > 100 years old unreinforced masonry and needs seismic retrofit. The drinking water is known to be unsafe due to lead, but the district has installed safe water dispensers to temporize. Despite these drawbacks, Its a very high quality school. I feel it is comparable to the private school my daughter attending in Pittsburgh for > $20,000 per year.

We are 5th grade parents as well and the fact that the district and school simply allow the class size to expand without consequence is the most absurd reality we've ever dealt with in education. We heard how great this school was before we moved to Oregon but had we known there would be this little control over the most basic factor - class size - we never would have started here. Prospective parents need to understand how real this risk is, that your child's class size will grow and you will not be able to easily add teacher's assistants to the class. The administration has shown no ability to influence decision-making of PPS and clearly PPS is NOT interested in the academic well being of its students. Look for other options

37 kids in 5th grade. Totally unacceptable and beyond disappointing. I guess this is why Oregon ranks 47th in the US for public school funding according to the Dean of the University of Oregon. If you want your child to have a good public school education, Oregon is hands down one of the worst states in the country for this. We do have amazing private schools though which is where we are sending our child next year. We've been in the OR public school system for the past 11 years and there have been budget cuts every single year. Sorry, but we simply do not value public school education here in Oregon and it shows with class sizes of 37 children.

Ainsworth Elementary School is a great fit for our son (1st grade) and our family. We have found the school community to be engaged and welcoming. Both of our son's teachers have been top notch and the aftercare program is just what we need (with two parents working full-time). We are grateful to the administrators, teachers, parent community etc. that have worked to create such a wonderful learning environment. Thank you!

The newer parent generation English side wanting to throw the Spanish Immersion program out because they feel it will protect them from boundary changes. They'll be revisiting this very same issue soon due to massive growth in Portland. This used to be a "Great School" before all the parent infighting started.
