So far I've experienced effective and caring teachers with small class sizes. The administration is approachable and very open to parent involvement. What really stands out to me is the overall kindness and respect that the students, all the way through high school, show each other and visitors at the school. Not to say the school is without obstacles. As a private school there is no state funding and in an effort to keep tuition reasonable there is a tight budget. Larger infrastructure is needed and pay is lower than public schools. In spite of this, it is a testament to the quality of the school that the teachers appear to be more passionate and effective than their higher paid peers elsewhere and the school buildings and grounds are kept in very good condition.

I had high expectations for this school, but was sorely disappointed. The middle school and high school is completely separated from the main school and the lack of communication between the administration is apparent. The staff does deeply care about students, but rules are not followed through. It is very ambiguous and rules are not enforced for everyone. Staff are overworked and often at the end of their patience. Their hearts are in the right place, but somehow what actually happens seems disconnected. There are a lot of great students who are following Jesus, but there are also many who are disinterested and bored. Chapels do not challenge students faith and are very lacking. There is a lot of the blind leading the blind at this school. Facilities are mediocre and campus safety is a real issue, with no real communication to certain parts of the campus. The administration has been working on improving and making plans to be prepared in the case of an emergency, but it just seems like a lot of people talking and not a lot of action. Overall, there are better run places than this one.

Let me start off by saying that there are many people on staff with a lot of heart towards the school and the students. The teachers want to see the students succeed. However, there are also many flaws. With the entire administration made up of women, sexism often arises, and things can get very personal. If you get in bad with a member of the staff, it's unlikely that they'll just "forgive and forget." Since it's a small school once you get a bad stereotype, there's very little hope for redemption. Teachers and staff don't need to go by the rulebook in many cases, and if you're do something they don't agree with (even if it's not wrong) you can expect to get punished in some way. Whether that's a detention, suspension, or a bad reputation at the school, you will get punished in some way. These reasons cause many students to be scared to express themselves or show what they're really like because if someone on staff doesn't like it, you're in trouble. I believe that this transitions into chapel services, which often consist of students sitting quietly or whispering to their friends. They're not supposed to be energetic or outgoing in the rest of the school week, so why should chapel be any different? Going back to before, if someone has an issue with a teacher or staff member, most of the time it stays under the radar because if the confrontation comes off the wrong way things get personal between the staff member and the student. So while the education IS better than the public school system and the students' influence IS more positive, there have been many many issues with staff in the past. These issues will continue to happen until the students can begin to interact freely without fear of retribution.P.S. In light of this, the elementary school at East Linn is outstanding. Every parent I've talked to has only had positive things to say about it. Elementary students are treated with a lot of care and both students and teachers alike seem to enjoy their time there.

Fails to teach basic science, sexist against women, poor administrators, closed minded and unaccepting of different personality types other than "normal".

Amazing community and excellent academics, with faculty that truly care about the students. The small class sizes encourage and foster individual growth. The athletic programs are great as well!
