I had high hopes for this school since I was told it was a great school. I have to say that I am not impressed. After moving here from out of state I am not impressed with the curriculum or the general environment of the school. There are some great teachers that I thought were challenging for my daughter. One being her math teacher. I think that this school focuses on technology too much. My daughter has to type everything and handwritten papers are not accepted by some of the teachers. I understand the simplicity of this for the teachers but it allows the kids to use Spell Checker and Grammar Check. This isn't helping them in knowing how to structure a sentence or remember how to spell words. For an English class I figure these would be the things they should focus on the most. Typing is still important for modern day but sometimes the old fashioned way is important too. I have to say I am completely unhappy with this school inability to communicate with the parents. I feel completely left out in the dark with regard to situations at the school, assignments, curriculum and that is just to name a few. The school is ineffective in keeping an open communication line with the parents. At my daughters old school they would give out weekly newsletters and let me know what the teachers have planned for the week and all events that are planned. It allowed for me to be an active parent. Here they are very hush about everything. If my daughter doesn't tell me what is going on then I would never know. That is by far my biggest complaint about this school is the lack of communication to the parents. For the most part the staff is friendly enough and the teachers are friendly enough too. My daughter for the most part says the teachers are nice enough.

"I have two sons who have attended Quatama since Kindergarten. The youngest is finishing up his 6th grade year here. I can not speak more highly of the staff as they are completely devoted to our children. They have focused on the whole child by working on monthly character traits, have written engaging curriculum that is supported by both RIGHT BRAIN and STEM, differentiate for all levels of learners, and connect learning to real world problems/situations . They have been recognized as one of the top STEM schools in the Nation, so much so that it isn't surprising they where sent to Washington DC to talk about their school and the high engagement of our children. My boys LOVE coming to school and we could not be more proud of being a ""Quatama Coyotes!"" We will miss this school and it's amazing staff as our boys move on but it will ALWAYS have a special place in our hearts. Thank you Quatama for 7 wonderful years!"

Our kids have been there for 7 years now. They have a fantastic principle and environment, the kids are learning, they are receptive to differentiated instruction, nip bullying in the bud and have an excellent STEM and STEAM program with residence artists each year. Music program is fantastic.
