Edgewood Community Elementary School Ratings & Reviews

We love Edgewood. My kindergartener started the year half way through the year, quickly felt accepted, and loved her teacher. She again grew in 1st grade, grasping reading more with the strong attention from her teacher. She enjoyed the balance of art, music, activity in the classroom, and continuing growth in friendships. As a second grader, she again loves her teacher and grows in her scores everyday. Edgewood parents are involved and supportive, with fun community activities as well as multiple options for assisting low-income families. All in all, it is a wonderful school community that I’m proud to send my children to.

We had a really bad experience at Edgewood. Despite the good reviews. Bullying was a very big problem and not handled, leaving children to fend for them selves. I had a lot of hope for the teacher and principal to handle the concerns/problems. It took over 9 months for the problems to be addressed. By then the school year was basically over and the children were effected. I feel very bad that I allowed my child to stay is such a dysfunctional school/classroom.

I currently have two children attending Edgewood and I have to say that our experience is beyond great. Principle Larry is a strong but kind presence and I have personally witnessed him handling difficult students with compassion but firmness. The teachers are loving and place a strong emphasis on community involvement and inclusion of all children, including those with IEP's and behavioral issues. The campus itself is one of the most charming in Eugene, since it is situated on a hillside and surrounded by big beautiful trees. This is a big walking neighborhood so when I pick up my children from school I see the same neighbors waving hello every day, and there are lots of leashed dogs to pet and a sense of familiarity and safety. Overall I am completely satisfied with our experience and would highly recommend the school to anyone seeking a laid back but academically challenging atmosphere. Edgewood regularly outpaces most of the schools in the state in the (very difficult and advanced) Oregon Battle of the Books and have even taken the championship in the recent past. So the emphasis on love of reading and challenging math makes the school exceptional to the city, in my opinion.

Excellent school, my youngest daughter exceeded it and was tested for TAG. My older son was also exceeding. Great teachers a very nice school.
