My son is almost 6 and has been at Corvallis Montessori School since he was 17 months old. The difference between him and "non-Montessori" boys is obvious. Despite loving to run constantly and play in a sometimes destructive manner (not in a scary way - just in a little boy way), this child is poised and well mannered. He will meet a new adult and look them in the eye as he tells them his name. He will go to the pool or playground and politely wait his turn. At those public areas, he will help younger children and sometimes remind new children of the rules. These are all things taught at Montessori that sometimes get missed at other places. This nearly 6 year old BOY can read. He is the stereotypical boy who prefers math, and he can do both addition and subtraction. I have to ask him to do it with me at night, but he already knows many of the sight words and can read words with silent e and other complex characters. The reviewer who commented on the "horrible administration" refers to issues that have now been resolved. The school has a new, stable leadership with no anticipated turnover. CMS is like any private school with many highly educated parents. There's no way to make everyone happy all the time. We have chosen to not get involved in the drama, and our child has never been aware that any drama existed. If you want a school that will help your child start elementary school with above average reading and math skills coupled with manners and the ability to practice self-control, then Corvallis Montessori School is for you.

Corvallis Montessori School was like a second home for our son from when he was 3.5 until he left at age 9. We loved CMS and the caring, loving environment it provided for the children. There was not a single day that our son wasn't excited to go to school. He had wonderful teachers who supported and helped sustain his interest in and love of learning. When leaving 4th grade, he was reading at the 8th grade level. We also truly appreciate the emphasis placed on helping kids focus and work in depth with a subject, and the self-regulating abilities that the Montessori approach teaches. In this media focused age, we also greatly value how Montessori shies away from all things related to media characters and mainstream commercialism. We couldn't have asked for a better school for our child.

Horrible administration with ever changing policies. High turnover in staff and teachers reflect the administration's poor leadership skills and inability to provide the consistency needed in a school. Parents beware.

My son was there last year, but he returned back to my home country. I would like to recommend this school. Excellent teachers, and the Dean of Adele.
