I feel like this school has improved over the years, I really appreciate my child's teachers working with me to help my child succeed, even when he had some difficulty comprehending expected behavior. I get great communication from his teacher on his weaknesses and when he is improving in general as a student. My responsibility as his parent is to teach him at home the fundamentals of growing up, hygiene, manners, respect, etc.... The teachers responsibilities are to teach the fundamentals of learning reading, writing, etc... and the key is to keep the communication at home and school continuous. I have volunteered at this school on occasion and I have to admit parental involvement isn't that high when it comes to needing help, however if there is an event for families there's a good turnout. If current parents of students want to see changes in this school, start by volunteering, attending PTO meetings or just ask your child's teacher what you can do to help, I did and it made me appreciate just what the teachers and staff at Skelly Elementary do on a daily basis.

My granddaughter was attacked while she was there and nothing was done about it. My grandson did fine there in pre-k and kindergarten, but did not do well in first grade. His teacher had no idea how to work with children and taught him to be violent. He is now in an online school and starting to learn. He did not learn anything from 1st grade on. He is working at catching up.

Really horrible school. The head of special ed does nothing but sit in her room and stalk her ex husband. The students in that room take naps!!! The woman who was supposed to assist my daughter with special needs was not physically capable of doing so. The nicest comment she ever had about my daughter was that her teeth needed to be brushed. She said some really negative things, every single day. The principal is a coward. My son was attaced and nothing was done to the aggressor because the agressor's father was, go figure, aggressive. When my son misbehaved, the principal tried to throw the book at him. He had done the exact same thing the first child had done. I pointed out that my son learned this was okay by the reaction to the first incident. When my third child "lost" a library book, I tried over and over to get the teacher to help me locate it. I finally found it myself, on the teacher's desk, where it had apparently been the whole time. I took all my kids out and now home school them. If Skelly is any indication of how Tulsa Public School opporate, I feel very sorry for all children in the district.

my family and i moved here from michigan so we had no idea what kind of school system we were working with... This is the worst school i have ever came in contact with in my life!!..my daughter is special needs and her teacher did not want to deal with it at all. I have never seen such a disrespectful teacher in my life!! everytime we dropped off my daughter the teacher was yelling and screaming at the children talking down to them and pretty much telling them they were stupid right to their face!!...we actually had an incident where the principal called us in to apologize for the teacher's behavior because the special ed teacher witnessed my daughter's teacher being rude and disrespectful to myself and my husband...i am trying everything in my power to not send my daughter back to that school...if you care about your children at all you will do the same!!

We know there is not a perfect school and if you live in Tulsa all you can hope for is a decent school since the Board of Ed is bad. However, for a public school Skelly is one of the best. The principle and the staff work together and it is obvious that they are still trying every day to make Skelly the best it can be. My child was home schooled all of her life and needed a smooth transition into school. The leadership and 4th grade teacher helped her to have a good year. She is on summer break and is still talking about the things she learned at Skelly.
