Both of our daughters have been in Edison since Kindergarten. They have had great teachers like Miss Phelps, Mrs. Bordonaro, Mrs. Culek and Mrs. Demark to name a few. I wish the school was bigger however they make it work by having after school activities that parents can attend on different school days. As for homework, my one daughter had a teacher who gave "alot" of homework when she was in the first grade. Truthfully that did not bother me. The reason is that it allowed me to know what she is learning and it really pushed her to become a better reader. So much when she was in second she came in reading as if she was in the 4th grade. Now I was there under both principals Brian Patrick and now Jatina Treats. I do agree that they govern differently however I believe the goal is the same. I think by one being a woman and one being a man that makes a difference. Mr.Patrick has been there for years so he has those years of experience to know families and people in the neighborhood. She is new to the school therefore she has some learning and growing like anyone who is in a new position. If I must be honest she is the only African American person on staff in that school and she the principal. I say that because I have read comments about the principal. I did look her up and she is qualified. If I had and thoughts I would like to see more school programs during the year, more training in communication for the lunch aides and maybe an activity hour. When I was in elementary we use to have activities every other Friday. On this day you will spend that last 40 minutes in a different classroom learning something taught by a that teacher. It could be creative writing, art, redcross skills etc to name a few and the activity was chosen by us the student. I hope my thoughts on Edison was helpful

A third grade teacher wrote all the parents of the class to tell them how poorly all the children were at listening and following instructions....."Please remind your child how important it is to follow what I call "simple " directions for 3rd grade ( put name on paper, put papers where they belong, sharpen pencil before school etc.)" The email was rude, at best, and comes after most of the kids have been having problems keeping up in the class. The teacher used to teach older kids, but didn't seem to have made the adjustment to third grade. Too much homework and too little actual teaching. No way for the kids to fulfill such lofty expectations if they're not given the tools to succeed. Always disorganized and chaotic. One parent replied to the email to stick up for the kids, but was quickly shut down by the principal and told not to contact the school again because they were just a "step-parent" and had no legal right to the kid in class (in my opinion, the teacher has no more "legal right" to the children than a step-parent would). Nothing was actually handled and no apology from the teacher. Just plain rude and disrespectful. Apparantly, it's acceptable for the staff to speak poorly of the children, but not ok for a parent, or rather "step-parent" to speak up on their behalf. They can certainly dish it out, but can't take being called on it.

The teachers r great. Love every teacher my daughter had but the new principal Jatina Threat is a terrible pricipal. When it was time to meet her she never introduced herself never would have known she was even the principal. When i purchased a house i asked her about my daughter staying to finish up school year cause she had been going there for three years and she wanted to finish up the year seeing that we were staying in the same district Jatina the principal said it would be fine. But i came back a week later and in front of my child told me that i had to put an application in and maybe she would think of letting her stay. All because one lady in the office didnt like me because she talked to me inappropriately and I let her know her actions were unwelcome. Needless to say i told them I was going to just enroll my daugher in a new school because she didnt need to be somewhere she wasnt welcome because two grown women did not like me which has nothing to do with my daughters education. I have seen kids get screamed at in the office in front of people. The school bus transportation ran over a curb and smashed kids heads against the window which cause a little girl to break her phone right when the bus when pulling off from a bus stop the week i was switching schools. All around school of non caring people.

My two sons attend Edison Elementary. We moved to Willoughby from Eastlake a couple years ago and they had to leave Longfellow Elementary. I am still regretting switching their schools. Edison is way too overpopulated. They have too many kids for anyone to get one on one attention. At lunch the kids have to wear their coats while eating if they are going outside and they are left with no time to eat if they buy their lunch. Their is also no room for the students at the lunch tables if they buy and then they have to go to an overflow table. Mr Patrick is a great principal but he is leaving Edison next year to go to the School of Innovation. Hopefully that school will take some students away from Edison to keep down the population. If not, they should build another elementary school.

My daughter is in kindergarten in edison, she loves her teachers and school. I was so surprised by the school's principal Mr.Patrick who is very sociable, easily approachable. Also he is very caring abt the students, i almost see him all the time when i visit their school as he will be doing some work around. the staff and teachers are very good, caring and polite. I dont want to move even though my rent increased this year because of the school.
