My son was recently diagnosed with ADHD. Academically he was doing awesome but behaviorally he was doing horrible. I felt that West Union Elem. refused to work with him after a certain point. They never actually said that he needed to be on medicine to continue at the school but in conversation it would continously come up. After a point they didn't give him after school like everyone else they just suspended him, no matter what happened. I removed my son and now he is doing great. I wouldn't reccommend this school to anyone whos child has any problems either mentally, physically or developement wise.

In some ways, this isn't a bad school. It is currently in substandard buildings but they are working on that. Where I have problems are the quality of the teachers, the class size, and the unwillingness of the principal to work with parents to the benefit of the child. There are some teachers in the system that teach from behind their desks or are hard/bitter veterans that refuse to retire. Class to teacher ratio's are pitiful. Too many students per teacher and students are more likely to fall through the cracks. The principal, who put my straight-A son into a classroom full of children with IEP's, behavioral issues, and developmental delays ...then refused to move him into a classroom where he could be academically challenged. It is no wonder children fall behind when going to this school. Because of this, we're pulling our son from this school.

West Union Elementary is not a bad school to attend. I do believe, however, that the student per teacher ratio is a bit too much for one teacher to handle, thus making it harder for our children to learn more or to advance in their ability. I believe if more parents would become involved with helping the teachers, our children would be able to advance to the rates they need to be; some parents do not even help their children at home or given them the support or encouragement they deserve to help them to excel. The school is quite strict on coming in and doing what you want, so security is quite tight, not only for parents but for anyone wanting to visit. I like this in my school system, because at least I know my children are safe, and I have no problem signing in at the office.
