Talawanda High School Ratings & Reviews
3 of 10It is not the staff personally, but the collective response to bullying issues. As for the transportation department, if on an A-F scale I could give a G I would. Bullying on the busses is seldom followed up with reprimand or consequence to the offender! This leaves the victim feeling helpless, and more prone to want to solve the issue on their own. As adolescents, the reasoni ng centers of the brain have yet to fully develop. This in turn leads to violent outbursts due to the lack of safety and support
Great staff the genuinely cares about the well-being and success of their students. The new schools are beautiful and a source of pride for the students.
I think that the staff:student relationship is very good, and that the staff is very supportive of their students. The students are always commended for their work, and recognized when necessary. I think that children coming in from other schools such as Queen of Peace, and McGuffey Montessori, are integrated well into the student body. The school partners with Miami University for students that have met all of their graduation requirements, and want to go further in their studies than THS offers. The teachers are incredibly involved in every student's Talawanda career. The music and language departments are excellent compared to the decrease in those departments in most school districts. Overall, with the new school, with all upgraded facilities I think that the incoming classes will thrive at THS, and look back at their years at THS with joy.
After nine years at McGuffey Foundation School, my sister and I both went to Talawanda High -- and had fantastic experiences. I don't think the transition from middle school to high school was more difficult for us than it was for anyone else. THS has some great teachers who really care for their students, and the school does have a good feeling of community. It's always great to come back to Oxford and meet up with my old teachers, and I continue to have great friendships with my old classmates. I'm now a student at one of the nation's top universities, thanks to the education I received at THS and McGuffey -- and even after three years in college, I still think I learned more in Darlene Mahaney's freshman Social Studies Honors class at THS than in any class since then. The biggest criticism I have of THS is that the Honors/AP kids tend to be kept pretty separate from everyone else. There are so many students in my class I never got to meet.
When I graduated from Talawanda four years ago I did so with a firm foundation that put me at an advantage over many other high school graduates. The teachers at THS care about their students, and having studied education I can say that they use best practice and are qualified, good teachers.
