Western Brown High School Ratings & Reviews
TBH Western Brown is an awful school. There were a few staff members that helped me and were great, but the administration has little regard for their students and is more interested in money. I was bullied pretty bad (A lot by the staff). A lot of people will say that bullying is an issue everywhere, I have been to 4 different schools and spent most of my schooling at WB and WB was the worst. Little action is taken when reports are made and the student is often shamed for reporting. I was accused of misbehaving by a couple bus drivers when I hadn't and when they were asked to show the video tapes they refused. I was harassed by the middle school vice principle. Despite the effort of my grandmother (my guardian), my physician, counselors, and myself the school refused to acknowledge my anxiety disorder and would tell me I was faking anxiety attacks and when my blood sugar would drop they wouldn't let me call home for glucose tabs, get orange juice or candy because "I was just trying to get a free snack". I had been forced to live with my absent drug addicted mother my junior year and had no food, electric, or water and I begged to stay there and finish out my school year because the schooling was so much better. My depression was better than it was at WB, despite my living conditions. At WB I had a loving grandmother, food, water, electricity etc, but most of my time was spent at school which caused me to develop severe depression and worsened my anxiety. I LOVE LEARNING, but I would skip school because of how toxic of an environment it was.
I have graduated in 2010 with honors from this high school. I liked the curriculum for the most part. The math department is challenging so they do prepare students for college. There were a variety of courses to choose from which is what I like the most. The DECA, FCCLA, FFA and IT courses challenged my leadership and teamwork skills. These courses are also apart of the vocational school, so you get them credits too. Post secondary is also offered and paid for so you can knock out a few college credits. I also love being in Environmental Science Club! The advisor is amazing and always coming up with fun ideas to involve the community and students. I believe if you are looking into this school or any other school you should always see the classes, programs, clubs and departments that interest you before attending. The website for the whole district has been upgraded so it is easy to find specific information.
Western Brown High School is the only high school in this area I would let my children attend. The teachers are knowledgeable and care about the students they teach. I have had calls from teachers in the evening hours, and on Saturdays. When my son was hurt, they went out of their way to make sure he didn't fall behind in his studies. They don't get paid enough to do all that they do, that's for sure. The atmosphere is different from any school I have ever been in, they are welcoming and friendly. Always willing to take time to talk to parents and go the extra mile for their students. When one of my children was struggling with a particular subject, the Teacher and the Intervention Specialist helped him to succeed. They do extra tutoring for kids who are struggling, after school, on the teacher's personal time. My friends say their kids schools don't go that extra mile. Extra curriculars offered are without equal in this area, as well as the elective classes that are available.
I rate western brown a three. because i feel they need alot of help in there sport program. mainly in baseball.
