Gahanna West Middle School Ratings & Reviews

This school teaches to the tests. The teachers are young and very nice, but the teaching methods are garbage. My son is being forced to draw pictures in math when a simple formula is all that is needed. This pulls down his self esteem because his teacher will not let him use his brain. My other child was given an 'A' on a writing assignment because it was full of detail. The problem is it was full of misspellings and bad grammar. Not sure if that is acceptable in high school or college. More time is spent on preparing for tests then actual learning. There are not very many sports, no soccer, and all the schools share a baseball team. I do think the Orchestra teacher puts forth lots of effort in working with the kids. I hope that gets recognized.

Amazing. Simply One Of the Best Schools My Kids Went To. They have a great community and great teachers and teaching quality. I simply love it!

i am currently at gmsw as a 6th grader and i know for sure gmsw is the safest school in the gahanna middle school district. They give you opportunities at a great education and if your falling behind, they have extra curricular things for you to do[extra credit] and the teachers work so hard for your son or daughter and the sports league,is the best.Even though i'm not in a sport, some 7th graders tell me the coaches give a healthy, environmental area.So if your looking for a middle school for your son or daughter to go to,i am pleased annouced that gmsw is the best school for them.P:s : MSW is not a ghetto school!!!

With minimal interest in academic achievements beyond the state's minimum testing requirements, the school is steadily lowering expectations with regards to student's preparedness for a higher education or employment requirements in a globalized competitive job market. The school administration is always comparing staff s salaries to those of the neighboring districts. Unlike those districts, there is absolutely no vision and no support for academic after-school clubs or enrichment programs. There are no incentives to raise pupil s interest for participation in science or other academic disciplines. Student s participation in academic competitions is almost nonexistent. While some of the teachers may wish to bring improvements to the education process, any attempt to change seems to be blocked by an administration frozen in the past, unable and unwilling to adapt to an era of constantly evolving education needs.
