Indian Hill Middle School Ratings & Reviews

I would give a 10. I am not american and don't really care about my kids being part of a "cotillion" party or not. I always tell my kids that stick with the true friends. Only a few kids in the school are part of that cotillion party that happens once a year and it doesn't prevent them from being friends with other kids in the school. Some of my kids very good friends are part of that too and it hasn't been a problem. Indian Hill is a very safe school district, with highly qualified and attentive teachers, good management and that give the kids a really high quality education for being a US public school. Kids in that school come from different countries (China, Korea, France, Germany, Sweden, Finland, India, Spain, etc...), from different social background, and they all learn to respect each other. We're a middle class family and my kids have friends coming from all over. It is great. By the way, I saw a comment saying that they don't have any welcoming activities for new families, and I just wanted to share that they actually have several "Welcome to new families breakfast" during the beginning of the school year. They also organise a party where foreign families bring the food from their own countries to share with other families in the district and promote cultural understanding. This is a great place to get to know new families. They have other Pancake mornings, and other happenings along the school year where you can meet other families. Volunteering with PTO is also a great way to connect when you are new.

Indian Hill Middle School is overwhelmed with many problems and should take the first step to admit these problems and have open/honest dialogue from parents, teachers, and administrators. There is a huge district wide disconnect within this system. There is significant resistance to having this type of dialogue. What Indian Hill refuses to acknowledge is that this failure to admit/understand/actualize on any type of negative issue has resulted in the current mess of this district. Many parents, teachers, and students are extremely frustrated by this district but in particular, the middle and high schools.

Aside from some issues with computer homework structure, we have had a good experience with the teachers and schools as a whole. The problem with the district is the social environment. Parents run these exclusive, invite-only social organizations like Party Wagon (Catillion for middle schoolers). It creates a toxic system that the kids pick up on right away. Try explaining to a 12-year old why all of their friends are talking about a secret party group and why he/she is not invited. No answers there. And the parents that decide who is in or not clueless to the damage or how they are viewed in the community. It's not the main reason, but it is part of the reason some kids leave the district for private high schools. It only gets worse with the Catillion stuff.

I thought IHMS was a great fit for my daughters, but I feel the teachers could be more thorough when explaining the assignments because my daughters came home many times not understanding the work that needed to be done.

Principal, Bridgette Ridley is great with the kids! She takes care of them as if they were her own. The kids know that she cares about them. She was the best teacher my daughter ever had and I think that background helps her advise the kids when they are having issues. Also, the music teacher, Heather Koester is awesome at getting kids to take risks and grow as performers.
