My daughter is entering her senior year and my son is starting PMHS. PMHS offers more than you would expect from the size of the HS, and yet it is small enough that everyone knows each other. High academic expectations are met with high achievements: US News and World Report awarded a Gold Medal to PMHS, ranking it 56th in NY State and 471 in US. There are so many APs offered and students routinely achieve National AP Scholar (scores of 4 or higher on 8 or more AP exams.) There are many extra curricular activities and sports. Science Research (Intel, Siemens and I-Sweep finalists), Forensic Speech, Model UN, and Yearbook are all award winning. Sports - Girls Swimming has one swimmer qualified for US Olympic trials, Rugby competes at Nationals, Crew competes at Nationals, Cross Country, and Ice Hockey at States and check out Matt Landis who graduated from PMHS before launching his college Lacrosse career! Sports in Pelham encompasses everyone who wants to compete as some level, and allows the exceptional to shine.Pelham Schools also look out for those who need a little extra help. My son is has dysgraphia and ADD and has had an IEP in the Pelham School District since 2nd grade. This year at his evaluation they recommended discontinuing services as he is excelling in Pelham Middle School... but he advocated for himself that another year to ease the transition into HS would be beneficial. Around the table they reached a consensus, and so he is confident about his transition. Communication is the key to success in Pelham - or anywhere.

Outstanding school. Great 'sidewalk' community. I feel very lucky to have been a part of it.

So, we were "outsiders"...not new yorkers, no friends, no family; my kid had never played a sport that he ultimately was recruited to play...and yes, coming in a new school system is not easy. Where there were problems, we reached out to guidance and many teachers, and my child got a great education. Last two years of high school, my child "started" that sport, and will play sports in college because of it. We also didn't understand how special needs works and I never think you really do. As a parent, if you think your kid has a problem, reach out. Pelham is a great school with many dedicated teachers, tons of AP classes, and my kid thanks to them got into one of the best colleges out there...literally 28% of the graduating class got into tier 1 colleges in 2014...and that wasn't just the was the coaching from dedicated counseling, teachers and coaches. Thank you, PMHS!

Pelham has always been and continues to be an exceptional school. However like anything else, resources can only be utilized by those with a desire to achieve. I have relationships with teachers that I feel will continue well beyond my graduation day. All my friends and I took advantage of the AP courses offered and all attended the top quartile of 4 year liberal arts programs.
