Notre Dame Academy High School Ratings & Reviews

This school has done an excellent job of preparing my girls for college thus far. I am a little surprised at some of the reviewers comments in regards to treatment being tied to money. I am not wealthy and so cannot afford to be a donor and only participate in the mandated calendar drives etc and my children have never been treated differently. I do admit in certain depts its hard to get to someone but part of the reason is some of the department heads are teachers as well and so are not available during school time. However whenever I have needed to leave a message I got a response quickly. Also I have never ever ever driven up to the school and not been able to get to speak to someone. So I was hestitant at first to send my girls here because we come from out of boro but the experience has been good thus far. I do reccommend this school. The principal, most teachers and the administrative staff have been a pleasure to deal with

This morning I called this school regarding my niece transfer school issue. The main office help my call to reach the admission office, no body answered my phone. About 12 pm My wife and me drove to this school tried to get to the main office and talk to some body. There was an young skinning woman do not let us go to the main office. It was very cold out side. We had to stay outside of the building to make phone calls about half hour. We were almost frozen to ice pop. The very bad things happened again, that lady came out and drove us out again Said: You can not stay here to make phone calls. She drove us as wild dogs and homeless. I strongly suggest all of you never ever send your kids to this school.

As many others have said before me, this school exceeds in education and academics throughout the grades but MAJORLY lacks in one key aspect, communication. The favoritism was evident once my child spent a few months in this mad house. You cannot be acknowledged unless you have enough money to back you up. Privileged students will be able to get away with whatever they want as long as the annual donations keep coming in. The only reason there is one star is because my child has gained confidence from dealing with the biased views of the administration. I do not recommend this school to parents.

NDA while offering a good education LACKS tremendously in many key areas - most notably, favoritism. All but a couple of the teachers have their "favorites" (NDA elementary grads and the popular clicks). If you are on the quiet side DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL . The school does little to nothing regarding bringing all the girls together; how sad. In fact, if there is a problem - the quiet ones will be in the wrong. They tout the "Ophelia Project" it's a joke; they need to practice what they are preaching through this program. Additionally, I have had a few dealings with the office and to put it simply - they are cold; not what you would expect from a catholic school. I have had one dealing with the principal - warning: she will speak down to you like you are a child; I very diplomatically put her in her place. What can I say, a librarian one day a principal the next; credentials or not - these are two totally different roles. In closing, on one hand I believe my daughter will be well prepared academically for college - on the other hand it came at a cost; her self-esteem. In the end, its not all about the education.

I am giving NDA 5 starts because this school does its job in preparing students for college. On the other hand, I have mixed feelings about the competence of some of its current/past teachers. I sent three of my daughters to the H.S. and one of my daughters had some serious medical health issues. Instead of providing a supportive environment for my daughter I feel the school only added to the current stress level and was not helpful whatsoever with her issues.
