In the 3 years my child attended Emanuel we never received incident reports, counseling, meetings, or communication that his behavior was any different than the other child in his class. He had an incident where 2 kids were picking on him so he ran out of the classroom. I only heard about the incident from my child, not the school. After paying the non-refundable fee for the next school year we were called in to a meeting with the school administrator, with no information as to why. He had no one else present and does not hold a degree in education or any credentials to make decisions over a child's placement. He stated that my child was "undesirable" and could no longer attend the school. There was no paper trail leading up to it. He had a personal notebook and was following around my child without permission for 5 weeks. He was looking for reasons to kick out my child while classmates with much worse behavior were left alone. He assigned a substitute teacher to watch my child and many witnesses said she spent more time on her phone than helping him. She did nothing as the 2 children mentioned above pushed my child to the ground and purposely scratched him across the neck in gym- again with witnesses. My child was punished when the bullies were not. The principal does nothing to address parent concerns and that is a huge complaint many parents have with this school. Administration said teachers agreed with their placement decisions for my child when the teachers stated to me it was lies. After leaving the school we were approached by 6 other families who had this same thing happen to their child after the child was diagnosed with a learning or behavior need. It seems they pick and choose which children they will accommodate with services and who they will not. Interestingly there are children with worse behavior issues at the school who go unchecked because the parents are church members. There are much better Christian schools in the area that actually practice what they preach. My child has PTSD from this school and suffered from anxiety while a student there. We now attend another Christian private school, still in a gen ed class and there are zero issues with behavior or academics.

I am very pleased with the educational experience both my children are getting at Emanuel. The teachers really care about my children. They often will come home with awards acknowledging reading accomplishments, acts of kindness, etc. The school makes it a point on Fridays to recognize different students for positive things that have happened during the week, this is done as the entire school is assembled together. I think this fosters a great sense of community and encouragement. The teachers effectively communicate with parents and have gone out of their way to make our children feel valued. The school puts an emphasis on character and encourages a family environment with the older and younger students. My older child spent a year in public school and he never got anything close to the attention he gets here. It's worth the cost of tuition knowing that my children are not only taught but are cared for. The work my children come home with is often creative and still within the state curriculum standards. The teachers take the time to make the learning experiences fun. I remember soon after they enrolled there was an evening event we attended, so many students in other grades already knew my children and said hello to them, hugged them, and seemed so genuine and kind. I was surprised how welcoming everyone is. The principal is wonderful, so attuned to everything, you can tell she loves what she does. Anytime I have called the office with anything, even the most minor things, the administrative assistant has been so helpful and responsive.

My daughter is in first grade and as been at Emanuel since preschool. She has had an awesome experience. The entire staff knows her name, and the family. She was reading early on in Kindergarten. She was also adding, but at the same time she developed a great moral sense. She would skip off to school all smiles , and come home and chat up a storm about her day. Sharing the sight word she learned, the game she played in PE, the artwork she worked on, or the Spanish word she learned. She loved exploring instruments in music. I researched curriculum because of common core. They are following the common core trend as far as the deeper thinking, the rigor, but not all the stressful testing. Students at Emanuel are NOT skilled and drilled, they develop a love for school and learning.
