I had gone to Montessori Children's School in Plainview when I was younger, and I absolutely loved it. So when I had my son, my husband and I thought it was a no-brainer. We sent him to the Montessori Children's School in Massapequa which was right by our house. My son is an active, at times distracted, but very intelligent little boy. All I got from the teachers were constant complaints and how he wasn't a good listener and needed to be professionally evaluated. So I took him to be evaluated through the district, and he was evaluated by 4 different professional; OT, PT, PSYCH/SOCIAL. At the board meeting, which consisted of 3 additional professionals, including the Board Director of Special Education, my husband and I were told that he did not quality for any therapies. Their conclusion was that my son was not thriving at the school or being treated fairly. His IQ test was very high, they found him to be a charming sweet little boy, who yes at times would need some redirecting, but was certainly not the "nightmare" that his teacher and two aids described to them. The board and evaluators told me it wasn't the first time they saw this happen to other children from the MSC Massapequa, and they told me that they would normally never recommend a child switches school mid year, but that it was clear that I needed to take my son out of this school ASAP and go to a school that would genuinely care about him.

My grand-daughter went to this school 9 yrs ago. She has been a High Honor student since the first grade. Her average grade every year has been 95. I know that the teachings of the Montessori school had everything to do with her success....

I LOVE this school!! My child has been in the toddler program for the past 5 months and has learned a great deal. The teachers seem to be very caring and I love how everyone knows my daughter when we walk into the building. The school is very accommodating to working parents. You can use the before and after care programs on an as needed basis which I think is outstanding. It elevates the stress of having to worry about the days I need to stay late at work. My only compliant is that I wish the school didn't have so many school breaks/closings, and a summer program for 2 year olds. Other then that, I definitely would recommend this school.

I love this school. I have sent both of my kids here starting with the toddler program all the way through Kindergarten. My kids go into first grade knowing way more than kids who attended other schools. Some reviews refer to 1st grade but they are old reviews and this school only goes until kindergarten. The teachers are amazing and really care so much about the children and what they learn. The teachers are all Montessori certified as well. I will agree that it might not look like a typical school, but it does offer extra curricular activities and accommodates working parents. There is an enrichment program a few times a week and the program teaches a new "topic" every few weeks. This is great because if you are a working parent, your child can continue to learn even after school ends, but it is more fun topics than actual school work, such as ceramics, woodworking, etc. They also have a before and after school program which you can pay for as you use it so if you have to stay late at work, or drop off your child early in the morning you can decide last minute. The teachers who do the before and after care are great too. I would deffinitely recommend this school!

This is my third year at this school and while my kids learned a great deal, I dont know what is going on with them lately. They are closing the school over a week early and using Hurricane Sandy as the reason for not refunding payment. I also don't feel like they cater to working parents as they send children home from invalid reasons.
