My experience at ALMS was quite interesting to say the least. I had very nice and supportive teachers who seem to want the best for all of their students. However, students misbehaving is a serious issue. They often curse, act like the rules don't apply to them, get into fights in the hallway, etc. A lot of the frequent rule-breakers do not get properly punished. The principal wants ALMS to be a bully-free school, but some students do not get the message. But on a more positive note, the support staff is very helpful. Sometimes, certain guidance counselors, social workers, and psychologists might not be in, but there is never a time when all help is gone. The curriculum is fairly easy if you pay attention during class, study, and go to extra help when needed. Teachers usually don't assign too much homework, and while some work is to be done on a computer, certain teachers do provide hard copies. Overall, I would say there isn't much wrong in the way of teaching students, but there is an issue with disciplining students who break the rules.

Can't say anything good about this school so far! My child has been attending for almost 1 year (6th grade) and he's been bullied with no help from the teachers, dean or counselors. Other student's involved have not been punished properly until the situation escalated and other children were seriously injured. The dean will not look me in the eye, talks over students and directs them what to say (regardless if it's the truth). I was once assured by the dean that an accusation my child and I made regarding a teacher was completely false. After investigation, I was 100 percent correct AND when I asked for notes to be placed in my sons file regarding the findings, I was told it could not and would not happen, yet my childs file would still reflect the poor behavior on his part. Too many kids in a class! Common CORE is hurting the teachers and students. Looking to remove my child from this school!

I attended this school in the mid seventies and hated it. Though some of the teachers were good most were terrible and bullying was rampant. I hope that this school has improved since then!

My child recently started 6th grade and I am struck by the level of dedication and the passion of the teachers - passionate about their subjects and the students.. I am also impressed by the administration's commitment to making middle school a positive time - so much emphasis is placed on how students treat each other and the 'soft' side of being part of a school. Also, I love the range of extra curruculars available - from theater to robotics to UN club. So far it has been great.

We transferred our child from private school to this public school because of the well-known advanced curriculum and huge selection of co-curricular activities. We continue to be impressed by the dedication of the guidance staff, the teachers and all administrative support. When a Typical middle school drama occurred, the guidance counselor immediately stepped in and remedied the situation to the satisfaction of all. It is a large school with a small school feel; everyone knows my child, not unlike in private school.
