Fort Edward is a great school district. I have had 3 children attend grades K-12, and all 3 are college graduates. Two of my children are teachers because of the wonderful experience they had with the Fort Edward teachers. As a matter of fact, this school seems to produce many teachers and I like to think it is because of the wonderful caring teachers.

Being a former student of FEHS, (Class of 1974), It saddens me that a lot of the extracurricular activities are not offered like they were during the 60's and 70's. Sports galore, baseball, basketball, football, volleyball...well i am sure you get the gist. As for clubs, language, science, bowling, golf. We were offered everything. I am sure that budget cuts have a lot to do with the lack of extras, but as I said it does sadden me. I remember at least twice a month, going to a school dance, and we had great times interacting with our classmates. I cannot speak highly enough about our administration and the teachers. These dedicated teachers did a great job, and if a student really wanted an education, and worked for it...they got it ! Our class advisors, were more than teachers, they were our friends. Kept us on the straight and narrow, took us places and even invited us into their homes. I am very proud to be an Alumnus of Fort Edward High School, and will never for get my years there.

Start appreciating the teachers before it's too late! They do more than you know for the children in Fort Edward. There is no budget- that means $0 for supplies and extras (field trips, extra curriculars, use of the school, etc.). Who do you think is paying all those things and putting in all the extra time? The teachers and the Reading First Grant. The Grant money will be gone after next year, the teachers won't. These teachers are spending hundreds of $s a year on our children.

I am a teacher at this school and can tell you first hand that the teachers are overqualified, if anything to work here! After recent budget cuts and the cutting of our principal, I've looked into getting a job in another district (as well as my colleagues); however, I enjoy working at this small school. I know most of the names of the kids in Ft. Edward, and feel like I'm really making a difference in their lives. It's sad when all you've wanted to be your whole life is a teacher, and then you find yourself reading how parents and community members are feeling about your job performance. I see the effort and dedication my colleagues put into their job every day (and night). We also spend a lot of our own time and money (thousands of dollars!)because we love the kids. Start appreciating us more before it's too late!
