St. Edmund is a decent school if you are middle-of-the-road student looking for a safe environment but not expecting much beyond that. If you are a very advanced student hoping to get into a top tier college or a remedial student who needs extra attention, this is not the place for you. The classes are extremely large, mostly more than 30 per class, so it's difficult to get any sort of individualized attention. If you fall behind, these large classes make it impossible to catch up. The weakest departments by far are science and math, which makes sense because they are difficult subjects. Teachers (esp Science and Math) do stay after school and during lunch to give students extra help, and many students take advantage, but those extra sessions are often so filled to the max with students that it's the same problem in the classes - too many students to get the attention and assistance you need. For this reason, there is a substantial percentage of students who are failing 2 or more subjects, and it either doesn't bother them or they have just resigned themselves to it bc with so many students and a lack of individual attention, what can they really do? The school building is also oddly situated, you may have two classes on the same floor but depending on whether the class is on the east or left side, you may have to climb all the way up and the down the stairs just to get to that other class on the same floor. I know this doesn't sound bad, but there are A TON of stairs, and if you are one minute late to class, the teachers are strict and will give you detention. It's unnecessary, and the freshmen have the hardest time with this because they are still learning the building but subject to detentions anyway. The extracurriculars are decent, nothing spectacular but a good array of clubs and sports, and like I said, it's a safe school. But I wouldn't send my own kids there, just not getting enough academically for the price tag. The teachers could do more, the counselors could do more, and the administration could do more, but everyone seems content and self-satisfied and so the status quo prevails.

St. Edmund is the worst High School in Brooklyn. If you send your child there, they will end to youtube searching for explanation for math and science. The science teacher does not even know the purpose of our spleen. math teacher's homework is full with mistake. Music teacher use the same test over and over and the sad thing , the test does not reflect the notes in the class. The principal is a vaut rien

Very good school. Students are encouraged to remain focus on their goals. Excellent teachers. Worth every penny.

My daughter hates edmunds. it's to expensive and staff are way to strict. She always comes home crying about how abusive the staff are. Only good thing is safety but all the abuse isn't worth it. She might of graduated this year with honors but grades don't matter to this family. It's the experience that does.

My son graduated from St. Edmund Prep in 2004. These four years were among his most favorite. He participated in the Band and Art, and did so well he received several scholarships for college. I would highly recommend St. Edmund Prep for any highly motivated student.
