My wife is an alum of this school and after having our first child, she insisted on sending her to LES. I grew up in the NYC public school system and was the Principal at a Pre-School for 7 years and figured "What could the big difference really be?" So we sent our 4 year old daughter to Universal Pre-K at a random school and then Kindergarten at what we were told was the best public elementary school in Bay Ridge (we lived on Ridge Blvd and 72nd at the time). Lets keep it brief by saying we had a HORRIBLE experience. When your child is one of 30 children in a class with one full time teacher, you get the picture. So I ate crow, and we brought our now first grader to LES. Her teacher knew her better in two months than her Kindergarten teacher knew her after an entire school year. The small class settings, the attentive staff, the superb curriculum, loving teachers who really care and I could go on and on and on. LES is the blueprint on how a school should be built and run. So fast forward three years and we have a now two year old son, who will be starting LES this September for Pre-Nursery. I went from thinking we would do public school for both kids to being the first to sign up my son for Pre-Nursery and gladly pay the tuition for both kids. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. For those concerned about the religious nature and affiliation of the school, fear not. We are non-denominational Christians and the core values and principles all line up. When my 8 year old comes home talking about doing the right thing in all circumstances and focused on how to be a good person in general, that looks more like Jesus, Mohammed, Buddha, fill in the blank name who taught people to love their neighbors, than a lot of things I have seen. Anyway, not to get lost. LES was the best decision we have made for the most important treasures in our lives.

Excellent.5 stars. LES supports the child and the parent. It's not just a school. LES is a community for the whole family.

I would rate this school 5 star. We have been at LES for 7 years. They are very much involved with the children and parents academically, socially, and spiritually. We are very pleased with the school.

The school advertises itself as a warm hug, yet they do not have the expertise to teach children who don't fall into the average. So only some are embraced. In fact the principal told us "we are not learning experts." We left and moved to public school and in doing so realized that the issue was their inability to teach. So the principal was right. They are not learning experts. We also realized that they had not adequately taught foundations in phonics to prepare our child to read. Indeed the LES K teacher made us feel like everything was wrong with our child. The principal's best advice was to get a $5000 neuro psych work up. In the public school his specific need was identified and support provided. He quickly made strides in reading. Never once have they made us feel like anything was wrong with him, rather that we would work together to help him catch up. Our biggest regret is not leaving sooner. LES weeds kids out and thank goodness we were weeded. The weeding creates classes are so small one wonders if it's even good for children's social development. They also allowed a child with anger and impulse issues to routinely act out. Our child sustained several injuries from him. One was a serious bite that they didn't even bother calling us about. They need to step up their hiring game, but nepotism rules along with a very gossipy culture. So glad we left.

The teachers give hours upon hours of homework in one night, the teachers are inexperienced, if a child is wealthier that means they get treated better by the staff, the classrooms are very small, and even the lower grade teachers (pre-k, etc) scream at the children. They also gossip.. a lot.
