I've worked here at the Middle School for quite some time. It is a small, nurturing school where teachers work to education the whole child.

CPCS Lower School used to fall between more progressive schools and more traditional, “back-to-basics” schools. It used to be a school that valued the arts as well as the value of interactive learning experiences through field trips. It used to be a place that valued feedback and support from families and managed to keep some of the same families and teachers at the school for over a decade. A change in leadership this year has made all of that change. Now, the technology room was dismantled to make space for a pre-k classroom in an attempt to gain more revenue from higher student enrollment. The children go on far fewer field trips. The main priorities of the school have become 1) getting more children into the school through recruitment and 2) getting higher test scores. They have been backfilling to beyond the capacity for classes and grades in order to achieve the highest enrollment possible, but have lost over 30 students since the start of the school year. The administration chalks up the loss of students this year to “ideological differences.” Clearly the ideological differences extend to the staff as well. Many teachers have left the school since the start of the school year (9 by my count) and some have expressed that they intend to leave at the end of the year. In October, four teachers left the school in the same week. Parents have left the school for many reasons. The school is no longer the warm, welcoming place it used to be. A schoolwide behavior management system was put in place. There were also major shifs in uniform, school arrival policies, and parent involvement. Many parents have decided to leave because of this shift, but others have left because of changes to the grading system. The scores no longer accurately reflect student performance levels. Many families felt their children were sliding back rather than progressing. Many services for special needs students are no longer provided by the school. If you are making your decisions based on this old school report, your experience may end up being very different than the one described in the report. Please try to speak to current CPCS parents and families so that you can make an informed decision about whether or not this school is in line with your philosophical or ideological beliefs about education for your child.

I'm in the process of removing my son from this bogus school. Their instruction is lack luster at best. I would have never sent my son to this school had I known that the his progress would be derailed. It's no surprise that parents are choosing to pull their children out and teachers leave during the middle of the school year! Word of advice: don't fall for their smoke and mirror routine!

My daughter has been at this school since Kindergarten. She's now in 6th grade and has been doing extraordinarily well under the instruction at this school. Her teachers have always been kind and attentive, she's being challenged academically and she is progressing socially. I am pleased with her progress thus far and I highly recommend CPCS/MS.

Both of my children were educated at this fabulous school, unfortunately my daughter only got to be there for her 5th grade year. However, she was coming from a catholic school in which she was in a title 1 program in which she was being pulled out of class three times per week for help in math and still carried a D. Once she was accepted at CPCS her math scores and ability soared. My son has been a part of the CPCS family since first grade and was, just last year, part of the first middle school graduating class. From day one the school, teachers and administrators have been extremely nurturing as well as understanding to his early emotional issues. Ms. Bryon, Ms. Cho, Ms. Argamine and a host of other educators taught him strategies in order to deal with his emotions. He worked on them and that is probably why he has been so successful. The middle school experience was just as good if not better. He was pushed to be great by Ms. Rattray (director), Ms. McDonald and all the educators at the upper school. They have always been ABOUT THE KIDS . If I ever decided to have another child (NEVER) they will be attended CPCS and CPCMS. It is a GREAT educational institution!!!
