Both of my children have been at this school since they were 2 years old. They are both completely different, as siblings can be, and they have both grown remarkably. This is a true child-centric learning environment (in actual practice and not just in some random BS mission statement), where everyone is an individual, and kids are not a test score. They truly care about the "whole child". My children have never not had a teacher who was extraordinary. The amenities of the school are constantly expanding and being upgraded. Yes, it's extremely pricey (and they ask for a lot of donations on top of the tuition cost), but I feel that there is no better investment I have ever made in my life than in my children's education at BHMS.

The school administrators seem to struggle with how to handle harassment and bullying. When bringing to the attention of the teachers the harassment my child has experienced, they were completely ill equipped with how to deal with the issues and had no awareness of what was going on and in fact, became defensive and tried to cover up their lack of supervision in the classroom. Also, the rigor of the curriculum is questionable. If you read the other reviews there are common themes about BHMS - it’s a small school that coddles certain children but does not prepare them for the challenges ahead socially or academically when moving on from the school. The racial diversity of the student body grows smaller every year. The school tends to serve a community of parents who would like to believe they are progressive, but the reality is you have a group of mothers who all are alike (socially and economically) running the school and are not receptive to differences, thus enforcing a level of entitlement and attitudes of privilege amongst their children. I’m glad my children are no longer at the school and have moved onto another private school environment where kindness and a strong curriculum is truly valued.

We continue to be so happy at BHMS year after year. Our child is now in the upper elementary. The director, Martha Haakmat is an amazing and inspiring leader. The teachers at this school are of the highest caliber. They challenge the students offer a holistic approach to classroom management. The curriculum and schedule they have designed for the students is right in line with what current educational research shows to work. Their exmissions for middle school are always good.

My daughter has blossomed in her three years in the PK, and I can't wait to start Lower Elementary there next year. The changes made in the last couple of years seem to be encouraging a more rigorous curriculum, and I can't imagine any other school in Brooklyn where my daughter would have had the same attention. Encouraged to grow while having the comfort of the same classroom for three years has been a phenomenal way for her to gain confidence and knowledge.

Absence of professionalism on. the part of some of the administrators/ management. Below average academic standards. A mixture of good and bad teachers. I was very disappointed.
